Range of Call of Duty 4 COD4 Weapons Explained

I have received a lot of questions lately about how range works in Call of Duty 4 so I thought I would make a single post instead of explaining it to a gazillion(really it’s that many) individual people. Note all this information comes from our Call of Duty 4 Weapon Stats Chart. Anyway on to the explanation.

First to clear up a common misconception, in Call of Duty 4 bullets will travel forever through the air until they exit the map or hit some sort of object (Enemy Player, Wall, Car etc). The amount of damage a bullet does change while it goes through the air. The best way to explain this is with an example, so lets take someone firing an unsilenced MP5. The bullet begins with a damage value of 40. It continues to hold the damage value of 40 until it hits 750 units of length. At 750 units the damage value begins to drop off until it reaches 1000 units of length where it reaches it’s minimum damage value of 20. So if the bullet from an MP5 hit a target 2000 units of measurement away it would do 20 damage. To give you an idea of how long a unit of measurement is the knife has a maximum range of 128 units to hit a target.

The range and damage a bullet does in Call of Duty 4 can be changed by other factors too, silencers, hitting walls and bugs in the game. Let us know in the comments section if you have any more questions about bullet range in Call of Duty 4.

is it me or is call of duty 4 getting boring. i mean ive played every map so much im just bored as hell. This website has been good for the time cod4 has lived. but i think you should move onto cod5 when it comes out.

Well i am a 10th prestige on cod4 and im not bored of the game, mainly because i am good and i own most noobs. I have a k : d ratio of 1.97 and im aiming for 2.00. I have all golden guns and i only cage matched 3 of them as they were bad guns. =( is clearly a social noob and basically cant play cod4 properly so he should find a new game. L0nG L1V3 c0d 4

I’m just in the 8th prestige but still enjoy to play.
I try new weappons and strategies in every pr. ranks eg. I’ve made through 6th with M21 and 7th with M249.
It keeps me interested as long as I can find new things and it seems I still can.

The range is more theoritical above a distance. I mean how the hell could you hit someone with G36C iron sight through the map? From that distance you need two hits (in HC and five in normal!!!)…

My personal favourite is the M249 & ACOG.
Infinite range, one shot kills (in HC) but still efficient in close attacks.

COD4 isnt getting boring it’s gonna live on for at least another 2 years. I mean look at cod2.
I reckon that COD4 with be more popular than COD5. Cause I hate to bring it up no one gives a rats ass about WW2 anymore so why the hell make WW2 games. Practically all the guns are old and daggy and they look like a pile of shit…..I dont think peeps who have played cod4 will want to move on to COD5 cause of the lame ass guns.

I’m not bored. I get burnt out sometimes, but if I take a couple days off I’m ready to go again. In any event Halo 3, The Orange Box, Ninja Gaiden 2 and GTA IV are all sitting on my shelf relatively unplayed, because I can’t help but go for COD.

I don’t plan to get COD 5. Treyarch sucks in general and they’re putting vehicles on the maps which means they’ll be all big and open. Plus all the WWII stuff that’s been mentioned already. COD 4 until Infinity Ward does COD 6… hopefully.

I’m a little afraid that COD5 is too high in expactations. I’m sure grafics and sounds will be amazing. But look at the complete game of COD4, playing in different city’s, ship etc. WW2 in the eastern site of the world seems to me a lot of forrest and small houses, just like a regular vietnammovie. Further in COD4 where used to modern weaponary. This will not be in COD5. I’m just thinking it will be a mix between Crysis visuals and Wolfensteinweaponary. In my opinion there will be a short explosive use of COD5 but eventually the mass will return to COD4. I realy can’t imagine that COD5, because of the place and time of war, will have that much variation and differences to play as COD4.

For the vehicles. Someone tried to drive vehicles in Crysis?? I have a pc and believe me, it sucks. Fast and fluid movement is difficult with a keyboard and you’re just a very big sitting duck. I’m sure that when you drive any vehicle in multiplayer mode you will be toasted before you’re fingers could touch any key.

Much talking about COD5, but what about Far Cry 2 multiplayer?? Coming October 2008. Looking at the trailers it seems to me that it could be a very nice addition to COD4. Has anyone comments?

I would personally like to know if Grenade Shells, as in a grenade launcher’s projectile, and RPGs disappear if you fire them and then die before impact. Anyone notice this?

One question you have not answered if how much a silencer effects range. Is it 10%, 15%, or something else. Does the silencer effect each gun the same, or do some lose more percent of their range then others? I feel like you should do a post about silencers given their usefulness.

Who say’s nobody is interested in WW2 anymore?? I am, so does that mean only 1 copy of COD5 will be sold?? It is very unfair to label the guns “lames ass” because in the 1940′s those weapons were state of the art technology. The great thing about (good) WW2 FPS’s is that the majority of the battles depicted actually happened and the maps are modeled as close to the real thing as possible. So the game is kind of a history lesson as well as a great shooter. If its modern technology you want i suggest you stick to futuristic games with light sabers and laser guns, you will be in your element there. Those are FPS’s i hate because there is no relativity or understanding of the weapons capability. No ones interested in WW2 anymore??!! Get a grip you idiot!!

If the range of a knife is 128 units than 1 unit seems to be ~1 cm.

i stopped playin cod4 cuz i beat everything
and i never cage matched for gold guns i got all of them but i did them all in real gameplay
no cheating…even with the W1200 shotgun which is hard to get 100 headshots with
i played and got them 1 by 1
one of the best things i ever done in search and destory was at the end of the whole game when it reached 4 victories my stats said i had 19 kills and 0 deaths in that single game

Ok guys this seems to have changed completely form something about the range of a wepon in COD 4 and into a pissing contest about whether COD 4 has become boaring.

What i have found out for myself is that bullets do not go on forever in COD4 for PC. What i have found out is that any weapon in COD 4 will go up 350 metres. This is as a result of a lot of testing to see how we can make a mod that will allow you to shoot at real life distances and with real life accuracy. And just to give you all a better persective a unit is about an inch.

So cod4source can you please give us a proper conseption on how to get the range to increase in a mod. Thanks

can you upload a screenshot that would show how far 1000 units is using reference points on a map cuz its hard to visualize it with knifing distance.

the few reasons that cod 5 multiplayer is betta is that assistance points are worth 2 4 6 and 8 so if you waste a klip tryin to kill some one and a faggy member of your team shoots a couple of bullets and kills him u get 8 points not fuckin 2 measly points
