Quick Firing with Single Shot Weapons in COD4

Being able to fire weapons like the G3 and Pistols quickly gives a huge power boost to those weapons in close combat situations. In fact it virtually eliminates one of the main strengths of automatic weapons, the skilless, but valuable ability to just spray and pray. That balance hasn’t been upset because the average gamer it is difficult to keep quick finger movements to spam fire, especially when you are trying to use the rest of your hand to aim. Hardware companies noticed this and begun selling console controllers or mouses with quick fire buttons in an effort to boost their sales. What a quick fire button does is spam the fire button for you, while you comfortably compress the button a single time. For PC players it is not even necessary to buy a fancy mouse with a feature like this, instead you can just bind your scroll wheel to fire and spin it really fast.

It is my assertation that features quick fire buttons do not make for good gameplay, and should be discouraged by the gaming community. First of all it is just not realistic; in real life there is no mouse wheel on guns that you can windmill so you shoot really fast. Realism is not always the a measure for good gameplay, in particularly the ability to respawn in the game and not go to the pearly gates like you would in real life is pretty useful. What is really important is what quick fire buttons do to gameplay. There impact is clearly bad, they upset the careful balance of power between weapons, undermine competative gameplay and are just no fun. If you want to be able to shoot fast you should have to practice it like any other gaming skill. Now a question f the comments section, any tips on how to become legitmately better at firing single shot weapons fast?

you want to question realism about using the scroll wheel when there is no such function on a weapon, well why no address the n00b tube issue as well, where the grenades have an arming range and more often than not they explode when alot closer than then the arming range.

Marek, who cares about realism? It’s a game where the US Marines decides to kill brown men because of some uppity brown guy that seizes power while the SAS are killing Soviet die-hards that are equipped with G3s and outdated AK-47s. I highly doubt that some dude using a scroll wheel to fire fast with his semiauto G3 in multiplayer is going to do much to break what realism there is.

A turbo controller makes a pistol fire like an automatic, but you still don’t have an scope or a decent clip. It turns a pistol into a poor mans assault rifle. In COD4 however, it turns a pistol into one of the best weapons because they have near perfect accuracy no matter how fast they’re fired and kill with about 4 bullets from across the map. The G3 and the m14 recoil as much as the ak when rapid fired… I think.

Don’t forget many servers have PB set to kick players with fire bound to the mousewheel too.

The single fire weapons seem to have mostly vertical recoil instead of the multi-directional found in most other guns so they’re very easy to control in automatic. I think “upset the careful balance of power between weapons”
is an under statement.

This is more like a complaint about mods rather than a help post for firing fast.

I agree that turbo controllers are gay but I find them to be funny. Most of the people who use turbo controllers are noobs who can’t aim well with single fire weapons which is why they have to make up for it by being able to spam the bullets. The part that I find funny is when people with turbo controllers lose to people who fire single fire weapons regularly. For example, I was in a search and destroy were I was using the G3 (no turbo) and the last 2 guys on the other team had turbo controllers. One had a silenced USP and the other was using a G3 as well. I ran into the one with the USP first and killed him. All I had to do to avoid him was strafe slightly to the right because he spammed all his bullets at the area where he first saw me. The other guy did the same thing as well. Thats when you know you are noob, when you use a turbo controller and lose to a guy who fires regularly lol.

I play PC version and havnt found that many people binding fire to mouse scroll (The little trick that is popular with duelies in CS:S and works well.) I find that I can fire a G3 pretty fking fast, my fingure spasm controll is pretty good sometimes people think i am scrolling.. Trick is to just do it lots and get good control in ur fingure turning it into the ultimate spam fire machine.. its good for deagle aswell.

There is no one way to fire qickly. What i do (I have an Xbox 360) is hold my middle finger near the top (the side with the buttons on it is the top) of the trigger, and,well, pull it very quickly repeatedly :p.

I know thats not very helpful, but it does let you shoot faster.

yea, if you play paintball, a quick trigger finger is a must. But half of a paintballer’s skill is the trigger he uses. I recommend taping a tough, thin strip of something to your controller’s trigger, about the length of your index and middle fingers pressed together. When firing semi-automatic weapons, pull the extended trigger using both fingers in an alternating pattern, which many paintballers call walking the trigger. You can practice this technique using rubber bands, and it still keeps some of the skill required to fire a weapon at high speeds. Some authentic firearms can in fact extend their trigger, so realism poses no boundary to the well-informed.

I use my middle finger. Many people think I have a mod, but I doubt they’ve ever thought of using a different finger.And when I look at the kill cam when I missed, I think sometimes I fire as fast as a full power mod. It’s either spaz with a finger that’s really fast for you, or alternate fingers, drumming the index and middle fingers. I recommend practicing just one finger, as you are more accurate that way, but never spam bullets from a G3 from long range. Most of the time it’s a 2 or 3 shot kill.

it was working 20 mins ago but now it doesn’t , idk what the hell happened ?
