My Top 5 Create a Classes and the Stopping Power Rule

There are a virtually infinite number of classes to create in Call of Duty 4. Actually it isn’t an actually an infinite number, but you won’t see me trying to do the math to work it out exactly. Here are some of my personal favorite classes for non Hardcore games, with one from each weapon type. These probably aren’t the absolute best classes out there, but they are classes I enjoy playing with.

M16, Red Dot
3x Frag
Stopping Power
Last Stand

P90, Red Dot
3x Frag
Stopping Power
Martyrdom

RDP, Iron Sights
Grip
Stopping Power
Deep Impact

Barrett 50 Cal, Sniper Scope
2x Claymore
Stopping Power
Iron Lungs

M1014, Red Dot
3x Stun
Stopping Power
Steady Aim

As you can see I am a huge fan of Stopping Power. I think it is the absolute best perk for slot #2 and every single class must have it. This is why I follow the Stopping Power rule; that is I always play Stopping Power in Perk 2 unless I have a really really good reason not to. For Snipers instead of a two shot kill it guarantees a one shot kill. For LMG it makes it easier to spray and pray and get kills through walls. There are some exceptions to the Stopping Power rule, but they are few and far between. Incidentally Stopping Power becomes one of the worst perks in Hardcore mode because basically every weapon one shot kills anyway.

Anyway those are some of my favorite classes, please comment and post your own favorite classes as well.

  • Ryan

    M14, Red dot
    optional
    Stopping Power
    Last Stand

i use this like a sniper with the red dot as it is a 1 hit kill in the head (and you get loads of headshots) and last stand is great with a D.Eagle.

  • http://cod4source.com cod4source

I totally agree Ryan, the M14 is great as a pseudo sniper. I personally prefer the ACOG over the Red Dot on it though. You may get less headshots with the ACOG but I think you get more kills overall.

  • BorisYeltsnFart

not a fan of Iron Lungs for snipers. two reasons

    1) in practice, there are few situations where you want to be looking through the scope for more than 4 seconds at once. unless you’re completely protected by cover, you’ll probably be killed by a shot from the blind side. better to peak out and if no immediate targets, go back to cover.

    2) it takes one more second than what you held your breath for to fully recover, and in that time it’s impossible to snipe at long range b/c your crosshair is jumping everywhere

  • http://cod4source.com cod4source

Iron Lungs definitely isn’t the only perk I would choose for snipers but I think still think it is a strong choice. With Iron Lungs you can scope camp heavily traveled areas and wait for a target to come out. Holding your breath while you scope camp makes it much easier to get a kill especially when you only see a target briefly. Getting sniped from a blind side is an issue, but you can avoid it by choosing places with good cover and having your teammates cover you.

I also like Deep Impact for Snipers because it makes it easier to get a kill after your target has taken cover. I am sure there are a bunch of other good choices for perk #3 on snipers.

  • Anonymous

To be honest, there aren’t a lot of great perk3 choices for snipers. Steady Aim is awesome if you go for no-scopes, but since they’re all dumb luck anyway, I’d rather not. Deep Impact is a popular choice, but it doesn’t actually offer enough of a damage increase to take any shot from a 2-shot kill to a 1-shot kill, anyway- almost everything that takes 2 shots without DI will still take 2 shots with DI. Eavesdropping is useless, and Dead Silence is of limited usefulness since you rarely do any moving, anyway. Martyrdom is only good for a big F-U to people looking to use you for free headshots. Iron Lungs is great for preemptively holding your breath, but has the drawback of severely lengthened recovery time. Extreme Conditioning is great for getting into position, but you’re extremely exposed while sprinting (far more so than a standard run-n-gunner). Then there’s Last Stand, which is a personal favorite of mine- in most sniper spots, you’re useless in last stand because you no longer have any view of anything, but you wouldn’t believe the number of claymore kills I’ve gotten because I used Last Stand to lengthen the time they remained (and because the enemy ultimately gets curious and comes to see whether they got you or not).

Snipers could very easily argue for taking any single Perk 3 except for Deep Impact or Eavesdrop, and I’ve had great success with all of them… but in the end, none of them really make much of a difference.

  • http://cod4source.com cod4source

To be clear I wouldn’t use Deep Impact on all Snipers. With like the Barrett 50 Cal you already have a two shot kill and don’t need it. But with something like the M21 a two shot kill isn’t guaranteed through all surfaces. As you showed though there is a ton of choice for Perk #3 on snipers, the only really unusable one being Eavesdrop.

  • Stimpin

Well I can’t say a thing for snipers, but I can tell you that I’ve used P90′s of every sort, and found them to be amazing weapons. That is untill the 1.5 patch for COD4 came out and they turned it into little more than a water gun on steroids. Also, the P90 with it’s ridiculous clip size is a great spray and pray, but only with steady aim, which you do not use for your sub machine gun class anyway. I suggest that you give the MP5 thorough reconsideration (as I’m sure you’re already extensively familiar with the weapon). Simply put, for close/medium range, NOTHING beats the MP5 with a red dot. it’s as powerful as the AK 47, and will put cats down in 2-3 hits if you’re aim is decent through red dot. the MP5 is also much more accurate when fired from the hip at these ranges than the P90. Even the reports of both weapons favor the MP5 in comparison. When you fire a P90, unless it’s silenced, everyone and their mothers will know. It’s got a signature that makes people stop and process what it is they’re hearing, as opposed to the MP5 which has a more ambiguous report. Sure, generally this makes little difference as you show up as a red dot on the screen either way, but when you’re flanking a group of enemies in an intense firefight, you can start picking them off and have killed 1 or 2 or even all of them before anyone thinks to glance over at their minimap.

Also, Why would you even consider wasting your 3rd perk on martyrdom when there are soooo many great ones to choose from? Martyrdom is effective on a tiny map like vacant, or shipment, but for the most part you can hope for 5-6 avg martyrdom kills on a regular map. Also, whenever you get a martyrdom kill that means two things. One, is you really ****ed up some guys gloating party (or his bud’s leisurely stroll) by taking karma into your own hands. The other is that YOU DIED! If you’re shooting for good KDR’s then you should be doing everything not to die in the first place! I generally try to keep my deaths below 10 on a small server, and below 20 on massive cluster ****s. If you’re doing something similar (which I would imagine every player who doesn’t want to die would). then that means you’re shooting for a Max of 10-20 chances to make yourself feel better about not checking that damn corner. Think about it this way.

You’ve got 6 kills, and are desperately trying to allocate your 7th so that you can call in a looming merchant of death from above. Whilst hiding out in a building, you hear an enemy soldier walking around the outside. would you rather:
    A) Shoot the poor *** through the wall with deep impact
    B) Sneak around and knife the enemy in the *** with dead silence (My fav)
    C) Face him head on in a death defying exchange (Hopefully with the upperhand, due to your steady aim)
    D) Blow him up with your martyrdom after he’s already ruined your killstreak.

I’m just saying, as far as sub-machine gun classes go, you could get a lot more enjoyment/success out of the MP5 coupled with a 3rd perk that makes you more lethal, rather than just more vengeful.

I’ve got a million things I could say about your Assault class aswell, but all this talking about COD4 makes me want to go frag.

Feel free to join us on our server, and work out this strategy I’ve been talking about, as well as having a ton of fun and getting owned by me (kidding).

To be clear the classes I listed are by no means the best ones, simply ones that I enjoyed and played with at the time of the posting.

The P90 class I listed there is only for small enclosed maps with tons of players like Shipment or Vacant, maps where Martyrdom really shines alongside it. I would never use the P90 or Martyrdom on any mid sized or open maps. Martyrdom isn’t an inherently bad perk, it’s just only good on certain maps. That said I feel that the P90 is one of, if not the best weapon for small maps with a high number of people.

I like the MP5 for large and mid sized maps where you can take advantage of it’s above average range for a SMG as well as it’s obvious close range strength. Because you are not using the the MP5 on small maps your third perk obviously isn’t Martyrdom, I tend to go with Steady Aim or Deep Impact.

As for the weapon sounds of the P90 and MP5 I honestly doubt your average player is observant/smart enough to notice a difference. Paying close attention to sound is one of the things that separates good players from bad ones.

  • g

i found the mp5 to be more effective after spending some time with it

    i went with

    mp5 w/acog
    m1911
    extra stun grenades
    stopping power
    steady aim

for regular team deathmatch it usually winds up into a run, circle strafe, kill, then get lost. the smg helps in sabotage games too. the acog is only there to scope out things in hardcore cause sometimes its hard to spot people without a scope.

the p90 just lacks the power and accuracy of the mp5. big clip, yes, but not as accurate, and anyway, most people carry the mp5 so ammo isnt a prob.

  • COD ownage

I have to go with the following for a couple classes.

    AK-47 W/RED DOT SIGHT
    BANDOILER
    STOPPING POWER
    DEEP IMPACT

    M16A4 W/SILENCER
    BANDOILER
    STOPPING POWER
    LAST STAND

    (my favorite)
    M14 W/SILENCER
    BANDOILER
    STOPPING POWER
    STEADY AIM

I totally agree with the stopping power rule. I think it hacks up great kills fast.

marty is shown alot here. as an SA this upsets me. I feel it is my duty to tell you lot to NOT use martydom as it is banned by all servers that have SA’s with a moral compass

  • http://cod4source.com cod4source

There are some places that ban Martyrdom, and I have no problem with that. On the other hand many servers allow it so I see no problem discussing it as an option for the 3rd perk.

theres no use of stopping power with m1014 thats a stupid move you should put it with sleight of hand intead it works much better

  • i like eggs

and deep impact on perk 3

  • Anonymous

I think deep impact is a wasted perk, you rarely will know when someone is behind a wall and other perks come in handy more often

  • Kev Guest

I’ll agree with you on the RPD I love it with grip, stopping power and deep impact. I found it to be quite under estimated. Its long range makes it excellent for mowing down people over a long distance, there must be nothing more annoying for a sniper, than being out sniped by an RPD. The only problem is when I use a different weapon I keep forgetting to reload lol. Hate martyrdom though, it really annoys me when you get stuck in a tight corridor (like vacant for example) and you see the grenade sign and boom your toast and you didnt even kill the guy who dropped it. You should not get full points for martyrdom, you should get the kill and 2 points like an assist because there is no skill in it.

  • rmp5s

I only play hardcore DM or S&D so I actually DON’T use SP. Right now, the class I use most is like this:

    G3 – red dot
    Skorpion – silencer
claymores (I HAVE to have these…)
    Overkill (duh)
    Dead silence

    -or, rarely-

Sniper (usually M21…I LOVE this snipe…)
    MP5 – silencer
    Claymores
    Overkill
Dead silence or sometimes Iron lungs

I really don’t use much else. I like using LMGs and shotguns and all that but I just recently discovered how bad ass the G3 is so I’m using that for now. I’ll probably change it up soon.

    “GO-IN”
    M14 w/ silencer

    “SHOOTER”
    MP5 or P90 w/ red dot
    M16 w/ ACOG scope
    stun x3
    overkill
    steady aim or deep impact

    “FIRE”
    M60 w/ scope
    claymores
    stopping power
    deep impact
**This set-up is especially good in the SHOWDOWN map. Lots of kills with the scoped gun.

    “SNIPER”
    .50 cal
claymores (a must have for any sniper)
stopping power (a must have for any sniper)
    lungs

    “NINJA”
    MP5 w/ silencer
    UAV jammer
    dead silence

  • joelpwd

    MP5
    silenced
    USP
    silenced

    #1 Bandolier/Claymores x2
    #2 Stopping Power
    #3 Steady Aim

i find perk #1 useless, snipers the exception.
stopping power is fantastic for the sub machine class and steady aim for the close enounters

  • Ricky46

i completley agree with the stopping power rule, and in the only other second perk i would use would be uav jammer for a complete stealth class or sonic boom for crazy noobtoob/martyrdom class

btw, anyone else notice overkill with 2 grenade launcher guns = 4 noobtubes?

    my main classes

    1)
    M16 – red dot
3 frag or claymores…. depends on if im feeling lucky
    stopping power (of course)
deep impact, because i can normally kill someone through a wall with 2 bursts when with another perk the guy on the other side will get up and move.

    2)
    P90 w/ silencer
    3 stun
    stopping power
    extreme conditioning

i prefer 3xStun over 3xFrag on a close-quarters class because its faster to throw than frag, slows your enemy, and will show where your enemy is compared to flash. once i do find someone, its easy enough to get to them with extreme conditioning and finish them with a p90. a frag on the other hand you have to cook it for 2-3 seconds or the enemy will just run out of the area, and funny enough they always pop out and shoot me as im cooking the grenade.

some people like uav jammer over stopping power, but with extreme conditioning i think i move fast enough to confuse enemys so i get to them before they can anticipate it.

i think martyrdom is better for newer players because it gets a kill without you having to do anything at all, but i have had countless occasions where extreme conditioning has gotten me out of tough situations, allowing me to escape for that fifth kill instead of dieing and not getting an airstrike where as when you start you probley wont be getting kill streaks as often

just throwing this out there: m21 with acog is just as good if not better b/c of range than m14

msg me/ inv me on cod4 and ill be happy to own… i mean play with you =)

  • Tazer

Is there a reason you didn’t make a class with a silencer? I always make sure one of my classes has a silencer. The second you shoot your gun without one, every noob or anyone that wants to get a kill is going to be coming straight after you. Plus if you are attacking a group of enemies, the fact that you won’t show up on radar and you wont have any muzzle flash could give you the extra second you need to eliminate all your enemies (assuming you didn’t rush out in front of them). And if you combine this with the UAV jammer and dead silence perk you have the perfect ninja class. The range problem is usually not a problem unless you are using a smg, which is why i usually use the M4 or M16. However a silencer on a hardcore game is useless in my opinion, since you won’t show up anyways.

    MY CLASS
    m4 with silencer
    usp with silencer
    3x frags
    UAV jammer
    steady aim

    m1014 with grip
    deagle
    ———
    juggernaut
    martyrdom

    RPD with grip
    usp with silencer
    ———
    stopping power
    Deep impact

    M40A3 (M21 for hardcore)
    usp with silencer
    claymore
stopping power (UAV jammer for hardcore)
    Deep impact
My fifth class is for whatever I am trying to get points in. All of my classes uses flash bang except for sniper which uses smoke grenade. I agree with your stopping power rule except when in hardcore or when I am using a shotty sometimes.
    Sorry I ranted so long=)

This is good when you have all the perks open. What about when you start from level one?

MP5 / Red dot (when you able to get it)
    3 frags / (3 grenades when open)
    Stopping Power
    C4 / (martyrdom when open)

I always play HC matches I dont like Normal I think its sus.

Anyway Im having a lil difficulty deciding what to use for 2nd perk casue Stopping Power is stupid for HC and so are the other perks apart from Sleight of hand and UAV JAmmer and JAggurnaut which perk is the most effective?

  • Anonymous

i always use stopping power too [unless im using P90 silenced, then i UAV jammer cause P90 is still decent w/o it plus UAV jammer is good 2

  • Tazer

    #33
Double tap has no effect on single shot weapons such as the g3 and m14. For those weapons it just depends on how fast you can pull the trigger. It may help somewhat on shotguns though.

If you’re bored on SnD try a Skorpion Silenced/Bandolier/Sleight of Hand/Extreme Conditioning class and try and rush as well as you can. Sometimes you can get lucky and rape the whole team XD.

Otherwise see how well you do with – AK-47 No Attachments, Bandolier, Sonic Boom, Eavesdrop. Some of the worst perks there.

  • Krytical Stryke

I see some people noting that he didn’t have a silencer class on any of his guns.

    The fact that you show up on radar can actually be a very good thing. For example, take this class;

    M16 – RDS
MP5/Skorpion (Whatever you like better) – Silencer
    USP/M1911
    Flash x 3

    Perk 1: Special Grenades x 3
    Perk 2: Overkill
    Perk 3: Steady Aim

Basically, you use your M16 to fire at as many enemies as possible, and use it’s high power to rack up some kills, but make sure you make a lot of noise too. Then, when you believe the other team is very aware of your presence, back into a good spot and pull out your chosen silenced weapon. When the enemies come calling for you, blast them to pieces.

This tactic works very well on large maps and maps with a lot of cover, I don’t like doing this on small maps or maps with little to no cover.
