I knew the cop out accusation would come eventually. This review isn’t a cop out, the Assault Rifle class really is this balanced and I am not going to eliminate playable weapons just to make the review look better. I tried to give some more weapon tips in this one so you would actually get some useful information out of it.

good review mate I’d have to say I agree with most of your points here,.

Some of the attachments on the assault rifles really make a difference, M14 is one of my favourite arms, and I interchange between Red Dot for pseudo sniping, silencer for headquarters, search and destroy, domi matches, and then noob tube for out an out fighting. really great weapon it only falls down when your toe to toe with an enemy and the rate of fire lets you down…

I really Think MP44 isn’t that useless.
I personally like it and use it a lot. It is quite accurate and reliable. Yes I agree some Assault rifles are better than MP44 But I also strongly agree that MP44 isn’t that useless. I love it.

I’m going to re visit the MP44 as I couldn’t get my head around why it is even in the game? going to try it with the double tap as mentioned above… that’d eat your clip pretty quick tho wouldn’t it?

I know i cant do crap with a MP44/AK-47/scorpion/mini uzi/ most guns in the game . but when i have a gun i have a “feel” 4 i just start to own almost inhumanly. (its just personal prefrence) and the MP44 has verry little if any advantages. if anybody has advantages 4 the MP44 let me know because i cant think of any…

best iron sights are probably on the ak. As for the guy who said he owned with the m4 and blowed on the g36c try this: silencer and double tap the g36. you can use it at long or close range, and hip fire is startliningly accurate.

@ above: silencer for G36C because it has great iron sights and red dot for m4. You could also go Red dot with G36

@ double tap users: double tap and stopping power do virtually the same thing to your kill time (difference is in milliseconds), but stopping power conserves clip so you don’t waste ammo and have to reload. DON’T USE DOUBLE TAP!!!

G36C best iron sights? Are you sure you’re talking about the G36C. It actually sucks with the silencer cuz it has the WORST iron sights.

hey post 18 i used to hate it. but then after lots of play i just sucked it up and dealt with it. and no1 on this entire list said the g36 had best sights. i said ak did. jeremy said it had great iron sights, which it does. worst iron sights…hmmm… i’d have to say are on the m14. although the m14 is my favorite weapon in this game, the iron sights just plain suck. they gobble up the entire screen.

Yes…the G36 has much better iron sights than the m4, m16, m14. sure they aren’t great, but the g36 is probably the best full auto suppressed assault rifle, because of atleast decent sights and no penalty to damage like the AK-47 gets. (AK has best assault rifle sights imo)

G36 has got to be considered a medium-long range gun imo because of the fact that it doesn’t sway.

all things said though, I would never use the G36, personally, I can handle the M4′s sights and prefer it any day. The only assault rifles that have a use in normal, stock matches are the first three (m16, m4, AK)

G36 Silencer + double tap + steady aim good for S&D or even TD depends on the blue perk. I use Bandoleer on TD and Bomb Squad on S&D. But its up to the player

@ Faust, double tap is useless, because stopping power increases your kill rate more than double tap and it conserves ammo and requires less reloading.

M14 is by far the best gun. EXTREMELY accurate, 2 shot kill, with an ACOG, IT PWNS!

you are right 27 but there is such a thing as a bad weapon. MP44, G36c, the two LMGs that are’nt the RPD, pump action shot gun, every sniper that isn’t the M40 or 50 cal.

if you aren’t great with the W1200 (pump action shotty) I can tell you this it has a pretty decent range so you dont need to go up extremely close and NEVER EVER RUN with it when enemies are around usually you’re enemy is running and when you aren’t running BAM SHOTGUN in their grill thats what i do with it

solid, naked AK imo, a friend told me to try it. i hated it at first, but ak without stopping power on hc is a 1 hit kill, the gun is an absolute beast if you can cope with the sway on the irons.

I’ve seen people get an M16 and somehow they’re able to take off the 3 burst rounds and make it fully auto and it’s a 2 hit killer with Stopping Power perk, but I don’t know how to get it like that, and no it’s not on the computer it’s on xbox live.

Also, I can’t believe nobody has suggested acoged M4. I think it rocks. Throw on stopping power and steady aim and it makes a great all around gun. It will still kill good at close range, then at long range it will fire off enough shots before the acog scope moves too much that you will kill your target. (I’ve only tried it in normal though)

kilzo what are you talking about? people who actually know how to use an ACOG’d M4 own matches but I’m assuming you don’t know how to use it. So learn how to use it and come back here because before I hated it but I like it now I’m just really disliking the ACOG’d M14 though

an advantage of the mp44 over the ak47 is that it has no sway or idle (like the m16 or m14)when sighted. this makes firing semi-auto much more effective than the ak47, especially in hc. Provided that you can deal with the iron sights.

Oh, here it comes. It’s good, you just don’t know how to use it. C’mon that has been said for every gun. The only way I could see someone using an ACOG on the M4 is if you can’t see or notice things very well. I can see everything with a red dot that I could see with the ACOG and it doesn’t have that annoying sway and recoil. I personally like the silencer but it is much easier to compare the red dot to the ACOG because the ACOG is worse in practically every way.

I’ve just started using the MP44, and I can see at least one great advantage compared to the AK-47: a lot less recoil.

In all the other call of dutys the mp44 was like a rifle that could go auto. Soughta like a g3 but with auto function. In other words, trick to owning wth mp44 is… treat it like a g3 except with auto for close combat. All the pros of cod 1 and 2 used the mp44 cause its awesome. Call me a mp44 fanboy but this gun was put in for veterans to pwn modern weapon users.

Double tap is better for low recoil guns (M4/P90/G36) in my opinion, purely because of the chance you have of hitting.

Bond, Barret has immense fire power, and is a one shot kill anywhere if you have stopping power on. Dragnuav is accurate, but if you miss the headshot you can say farewell.

Steven, for crossfire, either stick out of the close range buildings and use an M16/G3/M14, or Gun run, storming everywhere.

R700 has a very small clip and feels heavy to me, using the M40 feels more light and mobile, so I can peep my head out for a second and get that shot off when the other sniper didn’t even have a chance to hold his breath.

Plus my fav assault class is the silenced ak 47 (I just love the silencer) stopping power, deep impact and bandolier. Using the silencer seems the recoil goes down. Although with no attachment it has better damage the pros of the silencer for me is just too good. I never go ghost with the gun (UAV Jammer), as its damage isnt enough for me, the MP5 fits in that place.

I agree the .50cal is lethal and the dragnuav (and m21) need a headshot, but I must say that i disagree with the double tap notion. Spray and pray is not a tactic that should be encouraged. Brings back too many memories of the PPSH, the ulti in spray and pray.

I use the G3 with silencer on hc matches, still one shot kills and practically no muzzle flash lets me unload without giving away my position or giving someone a huge target to shoot at, plus I love the iron sights on that gun because of the barrel design. Good long range accuracy, and with steady aim its good in close in a ppinch.

I use the G3 to a great advantage because I rack up kills in close quarter encounters. I can “inhumanly” (lol) double tap my finger to get maybe 6 shots/second. It is actually a pretty good rifle. My baby though is the M16 with Red Tiger and ACOG scope. Now that’s a 1337 pwnage rifle!

#65 I’d def say AK47 silenced. It is more powerful then the m4 silenced and the silencer reduces the recoil of the AK which makes the AK47silenced a rifle not to be messed with. With AK ditch stopping power, the m4 needs stopping power, but the AK gives you a choice.

Personally, the M14 is like an m21 without a sniper scope. Just grab a red eye scope with it. Put Stopping power, Steady aim, and Bandolier. It seems to work.

The M16, M4, G36c and AK47 (basically the fully auto weapons) are probably the most rounded weapons in the assault class and therefore also the easiest weapons in this class to get to grips with.

The M14 and G3 (both single shot) and MP44 (because technically this is an AK47 with slower fire rate and higher recoil) are more the specialist weapons which you will find elite users using because they hate the fact that any noob can pick up the fully auto assault rifles and get a few cheap kills.

I would like to add that I like all the assault rifles except for the M14 which I have to say is one of the worst guns in this game. Many people cite it’s effectiveness in hardcore mode but I would argue that ANY gun is effective in hardcore mode, my fave being the silenced scorpion. The M14 is basically the M21 sniper rifle but in assault form and without the gillie suit. The recoil on this gun however is horrendously bad and in non-hardcore modes is likely to spell death for you if you miss with your first few shots. At close range its more a question of spamming the fire button and hoping for the kill. I’ve yet to see a player dominate a map with this gun (on PS3 platform anyway). I guess the only reason to use it would be to showcase how good you are at COD4 or to unlock the golden AK47

IMO the best two assault rifles are the M16 and the AK47. A lot of people argue that the M16 is over-powered in this game and the long range accuracy of the AK47 is also exagerrated. But there’s nothing stopping you in using these quirks to your benefit. You can argue all day and night about which weapon is the best but without being biased it is a case of which weapon is the easiest to get a kill with. With that in mind it has to be the M16. When this gun is paired with a red dot sight, stopping power and deep impact or steady aim it becomes an absolute beast as each burst of the trigger button has the potential to kill an enemy and as such an advanced player can take out bout 5 advancing troops without needing to reload. The only other gun that can do that is probably the G3 but that gun requires more patience and skill than the M16. The semi-auto fire of the M16 greatly helps to reduce recoil, muzzle flash and also helps preserve ammo. Many people call it a noob gun but I’ve found that few noobs will be playing with it as the semi-auto fire and the delay between each round of fire makes it harder for noobs to re-adjust and accurately hit a moving target consistently. IMO, the M4 is the noob weapon as its full auto fire (which helps greatly in close quarters combat) and relatively little recoil and sway (making it a good medium to long range weapon) hardly makes it a difficult weapon to use and all to easy to just spam fire and empty the clip.

With regards to the iron sights, I reckon the best are on AK47 and G3, also the G36c has pretty good iron sights and if you wanna go the silenced route with assault rifles then these are the guns with which to do so. I hate the iron sights on the M16 and M4 is underpowered (considering the alternatives) to be an effective silenced weapon. The M14 iron sights just plain suck ass. The MP44 also has good iron sights but obviously you can’t change the sights on this gun to use as a silenced weapon.

If you are hopeless with iron sights and prefer a red dot sight or even ACOG scope then you won’t do much better than an M16, M4 or G36c and even AK47. I agree mostly with COD4Source’s analysis of each of the weapons, however I believe ur analysis of the G36c is wrong. The G36c has a similar accuracy and range as the M4 but I believe the G36c has more power, more sway and recoil than when firing than the M4. These differences make it a gun that is very effective but one that requires a great deal of concentration to use which is why a lot of people have difficulty with this weapon mainly because of the sway when firing that throws them off and therefore it’s a great alternative to the noobish M4. For those of you that have trouble with this gun try burst firing and giving it some time and you will find that you get much better at adjusting you weapon sight when firing. Also a lot of people claim that they get better accuracy on the G36c when paired with the noob tube. Don’t know why and perhaps someone would like to verify and enlighten me.

I can’t post my name for some reason. But it’s Jav and i’m replying to the anonymous posting at no. 70. Kudos to you if you have really managed all gold weapons, alas i’m still a way off from 10th level prestige but I didn’t trade in my prestige until late on so i missed out somewhat i guess. I’m not slating the MP44, in fact I like it because as I mentioned in my previous post it is somewhat of a specialist weapon because IT IS inferior to the AK47 and lacks the ability to add attachments. Yet these deficiencies are what attracts elite players towards the MP44 (as well as the M14 and G3).

You are right that the MP44 has more accuracy when single shot firing but it clearly has more recoil as it takes longer for the gun to level before you can fire the next shot. However, when burst firing or full on auto firing it is quite evident that the AK47 has more accuracy and less recoil than the MP44.

And another point about the weapon stat charts (I can’t find where to post comments speccifically for that) Was the reload time in the stat chart measured from the start of the reload motion to the end of the reload motion or was it from the start of the reload to when the bullets were actually there. Because ive found there is around a 1-0.5 second delay after the bullets are there that your avatar actually slides magazine and if you sprint during that time you can skip the motion of sliding the magazine in therefore slicing off around 1-0.5 seconds off the reload time.

Doviedood, i don’t understand ur second post but in relation to your first post (no. 74), double tap doesn’t increase the intial 3 short burst but shortens the delay in firing the next burst. It’s very helpful if your aim is not upto scratch, in fact I used to use it when I first started off playing the game but as I progressed it’s a perk I seldom use. Although it has it’s uses in hardcore mode but in normal modes i prefer to use stopping power or uav jammer.

To anonymous at 74, that’s a nice combination, I would have prefered maybe steady aim as perk 3 but still good to see someone use a full auto assault rifle other than an M4.

I like MP44 a lot especially because of the “automatic” accurate sights a and 1-2 shot kill,if you use double-tap it is better then AK,more accurate and much much more controllable! (hardcore)
“automatic” sights,because you don’t need to aim target with the tip of the front sight,just make sure target is in the gap of the rear sight fire a short burst and you probably killed it!

I kill 2-3 people with one long burs on the regular basis if they are in the same field of aim,without stopping to shot like with AK,M4 and others that have bad kick,big flash or both,after initial up recoil jump it stays there pretty much rigid!
And it also has a good penetration,if I saw you,wall means nothing!

Try M4 with double tap. Sit back relax and watch your enemies (and your ammo) drop. G36c with silencer rocks assuming u use stopping power and steady aim. The iron sight aint as bad as mp44.

i mostly use the M4 with ACOG for distance and have steady aim for close combat. i like to use the M16, M4, and G3OC. M16- farther range(doesnt shake when downsighting) M4-close to far rang, G36C- strong,steady, but not as far as effective range.

actually the ak has no recoil at all, it’s just cosmetic. Stand still and shoot from med. range at a wall. the shots hit in a small triangle and nothing else.

i prefer g36c for most maps(medium to long range), played and won countless matches with it on SC and HC.
I dont know how the power of it and M4 can be the same in the damage charts but in game stats say g36c is more powerful and my impression playing was the same.
Other gear sets of mine are mostly combined depending on distances in maps not game types.(p90- close range, g36c- medium, g3- long, m21+mp5 silenced- some sort of covert ops and sniper gear with barret 50cal )
Also in SC i use only 2 gears g36c one and barret with which i can “flip shot” even on medium distance and because its 1 shot one kill weapon it is very effective.

ive only just started playing cod4 im level 39 atm and it seems to me that the best weapons are the ones you unlock early i use the ak47 red dot and i seem to get loads of kills, but when i unlocked the g36c i struggled at close range compared with the ak. this goes for the SMGs as well ive stuck to the mp5 and havent even botherd with the uzi or w/e coz its just so dam fast and powerfull lol

Personally, i have found the M21 with ACOG much better then the M14 due to its lower recoil and slightly higher damage output.

i think the best guns to use are p90 with sileancer and the first sniper u get

I know what you mean hawk. The people that discredit the mp44 just don’t know how to use it. I don’t get headshots that often with it, but I throw stopping power, bandolier, and steady aim on there and I got a first or second place finish. Maybe I am just wierd but I can’t stand the mp5 or p90. I like the other smgs much better. Also the g36c and m4 and m16 suck. The first two take most of the clip to do any good and the last one I just don’t like. The m14 with red dot sight performs better than it with an acog or the m21 with an acog for me. Personally I don’t believe there is a best overall gun, but more so just what is the best gun for you for your playing style for the specific map? If nothing is working ever with what ya got, then maybe ya need a change…

Anyways my point is just I dont believe there to be an overall best weapon.

RPD with Grip, Stopping Power and Deep Impact perks (though Im experimenting with Steady Aim perk instead of DI). That is my main set up and has been for long time now.

Anyways AR’s….. Ive used the RPD so much Ive been starting to use the AR’s more now for some specific maps, specifically the M14 and AK-47. Using them on maps like Crossfire, Backlot, Downpour, and Overgrown. I just dont like sniping, never have, never will be a big fan…. and just dont like it at all in this game, not my way to play…. Those 4 maps I cant decided what works better? M14 with RDS, 2xRPG, SP and DI perks? or AK47 with no attachment (though thinking about trying noob tube out with it), 3 frags (or special or bandoller, cant decide), SP and Steady Aim perks? Or just try and run with my RPD set up? For those 4 maps Ive had troubles figuring out what seems to be best. I dont, yet prefer the med-long range combat.

Started trying out the AK cuz Backlot, Downpour, and Crossfire (except for the the open roads inbetween the buildings) all really have combat close-med, medium, med-long, with Backlot and Crossfire having a few good spots for snipers and their long range. (not just your typical sniper maps imo though) I end up being more mobile than usual on these maps thus why I started using M14 and AK on them, and most places that would seem “good” perhaps for me to set up with with my RPD on those maps, usually are vulnerable to snipers that probably will see me with my RPD before I see them hiding…

Overgrown, I havent been using AK on at all, but rather going back and forth with M14 and RPD. This is a more wide open map then most. A map snipers like, yet again Im not a sniper…. Past few games Ive had good success with my RPD, I just gotta basically pick a corner area of the map that im going to cover, and then pick them off when I see them coming hopefully wont get bum rushed and be all alone ya know lol…. With M14 though I still got the range needed, still got the power, but more mobile for sure. I never have intentions of close combat on this map… ever…. Maybe I am finally figuring this map out for myself with my RPD setup…. I dunno…. Ive had success with my M14 though as well….

I have to disagree with the short round up because i actually play the best with the mp44. i find it very satisfying to kill with and i think that that also plays a big part in personal preference. as silly as it sounds, the noise of the gun also contributes to how well people play with it (not because of the radar). comment back if you agree. I personally prefer the M4. High accuracy, rate of fire… and a two shot kill if you have any headshot skills.

Other favorites: M16, G3.

MP44 is good gun cause it has same stats as AK47 but slower so allows for more control at times. AK47 with silencer is great for close combat I find and M16 for med-long range. Other good guns are RPD with grip stopping power and steady aim. MP5 works best for FFA with silencer bandolier uav jammer and extreme conditioning.

M16 with red dot sight and stopping power and deep impact is the best class ever. I usually get bandoleer but you could get 3 frag

G3 all the way with a rapid fire controller!!!!! owns anyone who comes close to me!!!!!

ok well I’m just starting (lv33) I’m not that good but I find g3 with acog is great in hardcore if you like the advantage of extra aim. also you can use steady aim if you want to go for a assult sinper kinds class

ak with the silencer for short range 1st place colse 2nd is mp5 you dont have to aim the thing and 50% of the you get a head shot rpd with grip is the shit if you know how to use a m16 you can work it but i try not to stick to one gun i need the points for them all

I would say the M4 is the best I just owned my friend and his other friends this morning!!! Its easy kills on hardcore and you dont need Stopping Power!!!!!! The M4 is a beast!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For me its either the M4 or the G3. I once put a acog scope on a g3 and it actually worked pretty good. I got 26 kills and was at the top of the list and I also got a 10 kill streak.

I don’t know what’s with people saying Double Tap sucks. I got a 17-kill streak using double tap and an M16.

But I have switched back to stopping power for obvious reasons.

My experience is based solely on the PC version, so bear with me. G36c is better than the M4 not only in less sway but also it is slightly more powerful. I don’t care what your stats say but in my experience and based off the counter in the game when setting classes the G36c has similar damage to the M16 with a rate of fire like that of the AK47. When you factor in the perks an M4 with stopping power is equal to a G36c with double tap. IMHO the only drawback is the iron sights on the G36c, they practically take up half the screen! However, due to the lower amount of sway, I would take the G36c with the red dot and double tap over the M4 with stopping power any day.

The multiplayer G3 and M14 are battle rifles not assault rifles… no select fire capabilities… sorry one of the things that annoys me about the game, but one that’s easy to get over. Love that G3 + silencer.

My 3 favorite assault rifles are the ak-47,m4, and m16. I typically put stopping power on my m16 and double tap on my ak-47 and m4(the firing rate just doesn’t seem fast enough for me without it.) I put either a silencer or red dot on all of them, even the ak because since I have double tap on, the extra fire rate makes up for the damage loss.

Noob tube doesnt deserve its bad reputation, its not just cheap kills, it requires skill to kill a moving enemy 100 metres away with a grenade shot to the head. More skill than a regular gun perhaps, as you have to account for the pneumatic firing of grenades. I have an ultimate noob nube class. It has overkill as perk 2, M16 with g launcher in primary, M4 with g launcher in slot two. It’s ownage idc if people get pissed when they die from noob tubes, theyre just stupid

to be honest the mp44 is one of my favorite assault rifles in the game i dont know why the writer said that it is “strictly worse than the ak47″ becuz the ak47 has idle sway while the mp44 does not.

I don’t know why Grenade Launchers have such a bad reputation to the point that they have been dubbed ‘noob tubes’. Launchers aren’t for noobs, if you’re standing out in the open, instead of sticking to the perimeter, you deserved to be killed.

All right noob tubes just suck because they blow up two people and then when they don’t have any more grenade launchers they just suck with shooting the gun so they die and they have a new grenade launcher to kill another two people. It requires no skill what so ever.

When firing the MP44 in 3 to 5 round bursts, the mp44′s hideous iron sights clear up, and the weapon becomes a devastatingly powerful weapon with huge accuracy. but the ak47 has the same damage, but a higher rate of fire , so its better, right? not necessarily. The mp44 counters these advantages by its higher accuracy due to its lower rate of fire, no idle sway and lower ammo consumption.

The MP44 has no idle sway. It has nearly no use in core, yet it is one of the best HC weapons, if you want to conserve bullets, but need a better chance in CQC. Single shots conserve, yet can’t go well in CQC. Full-autos do the opposite. So if you want to free up a slot to not use bandolier, the MP44 is a very nice choice. However, there are many dissenter out there right now saying they don’t need bandolier anyway. This is bullshit. If this is true, then why do I always see BOTH teams going crazy on full auto spraying everything but the enemy. You can’t hit shit. In this case, the MP44 lets you go crazy on the trigger. As much as it can. Enemies drop slowly. The MP44 fires slower than they fall, which lets you ease off once you see ‘em drop. The recoil is horrendous EXCEPT for the fact that it isn’t noticeable  until the 3rd or 4th shot. This means that unless you are spraying a wall, which recoil then HARDLY matters, they will most likely be dropped. The MP44 is for those who use the AK, but don’t like the sway, or how they need to use bandolier. This author has obviously not put in enough time using this gun, or plays mainly core, if so, he does a poor job seeing as how his job is to review the gun’s overall effectiveness in ALL modes.

G3 w/ silencer will miss 90% of all melee attacks. It is a glitch.
