First to clear up a common misconception, in Call of Duty 4 bullets will travel forever through the air until they exit the map or hit some sort of object (Enemy Player, Wall, Car etc). The bullet begins with a damage value of 40. It continues to hold the damage value of 40 until it hits 750 units of length. At 750 units the damage value begins to drop off until it reaches 1000 units of length where it reaches it’s minimum damage value of 20. So if the bullet from an MP5 hit a target 2000 units of measurement away it would do 20 damage. To give you an idea of how long a unit of measurement is the knife has a maximum range of 128 units to hit a target.

The range and damage a bullet does in Call of Duty 4 can be changed by other factors too, silencers, hitting walls and bugs in the game. Let us know in the comments section if you have any more questions about bullet range in Call of Duty 4.

Grenade – An extremely useful multi purpose explosive. No matter what perk or weapon set up you have the single denominator is that they all come equipped with at least one grenade. The multi purpose abilities is what makes grenades great. No other explosive kills with deadly accuracy no matter whether you are exploding it right at your feet or tossing it distances to enemies inside a building. Each grenade has a fuse of 3.5 seconds and a talented grenadier can cook a grenade so perfectly that it explodes right in the enemies face, giving them no time to throw it back to you. the biggest reason why grenades are one of the best explosives is that you can spam them over buildings or in random locations where there is a high probability of an enemy being located. The range and damage values of grenades means that one grenade is all you will need.

RPG – Great for taking out helicopters, but that’s about it. The poor accuracy of the projectile makes it strictly worse than the grenade launcher for taking out individual players. You also stand a good chance of killing yourself with the RPG if you are firing from crouch or prone in a hilly area. The RPG is invaluable however at taking out helicopters always appearing in Call of Duty 4, no other explosive or weapon can come remotely close.

Grenade Launcher – The often whined about Noobtube, great for taking out obscured targets quickly. The grenade launcher couples the great range and accuracy of the grenade with the explosion on contact power of the RPG. It is often complained about but in most situations normal bullets could do a better job at getting a kill than the Noobtube. Think about it, to fire a round from the Noobtube you need to get a relatively clear view of the enemy, enable the launcher, fire the grenade and wait a few moments for it to actually hit. In that same time or less a skilled Call of Duty player could have pulled out his or her M16 and fired a quick three round burst killing the enemy. The Noobtube is not without it’s uses, but because you can’t use it around corners or for spam like a normal grenade it is far from overpowered.

Claymore – The best choice explosive for snipers or to hold an important building. The great part about claymores is that you can just set it and forget it. There is no hassle of aiming or risking your life in battle. Just set it by a high traffic location and wait for the kill to pop up. Planting them correctly so that they are no visible, but still do more than just wound the enemy can take some practice but is fairly simple. The claymore is the only explosive you should bother using for passive play.

C4 – A strong explosive for aggressive, not passive uses. Most people try to use C4 as a camping tool and end up waiting hours on end for someone to walk by that they can blow up. If you want a passive explosive device Claymores are always the better choice. C4 does have a place if you use it actively though. Basically you want to use it as a grenade with a shorter range and a shorter fuse. Check out this post for more information on C4 throwing in Call of Duty 4.

The key to pwning with the Shotgun in video games in general is not your aiming ability, the spread of the pellets is so large it’s almost impossible to miss, the key is to position yourself so your target is always within firing range. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that you can’t get a kill with the M1014 if the guy your shooting at is half way across the map. Yet still see Call of Duty players trying to run into huge wide open places with their Shotgun only to be destroyed at range with a LMG.

Therefore to dominate with the Shotgun what you need to do is always move in small enclosed areas where you cannot be killed with a range weapon. This means avoiding high points on the map, getting to cover as long as possible and occasionally camping if you have to. Most players aren’t used to this style of play in Call of Duty 4 so you really need to make a conscious effort to move smart.

There are some maps where you have to move through wide open spaces, so if you get to a safe place and switch over to your Pistol or Overkill weapon. Equipping Extreme Condition in Perk slot 3 can also be useful on more open maps where running across without cover is unavoidable. Try out these movement tips for the Shotgun and you should be able dominate all your friends at Call of Duty 4 in no time.

The graphics of Call of Duty 4 is one of the things that makes the game great. You can see the shadows of every player, bountiful explosions dispersed across the map and even the reflection of the map around you in your sniper scope. The graphics of a sniper scope are particularly important though because it expands the players view of the map, and therefore enemy players. So can we use the reflection in a sniper scope to see enemies creeping us behind us or to stare around corners from a safe location?

I know I got you all riled up in the last paragraph, but unfortunately the answer is no, you cannot use the reflection in a sniper scope to gain any sort of strategic advantage. The problem is that reflection doesn’t accurately portray what is really behind you. To test this just try standing with a sniper and your back to a solid brick wall. Your scope should show that wall but instead it will just show a random canned image from that map. Basically what the scope reflection does is based on your location in the map it chooses from preset images that should resemble that background. If you step out of a certain location zone on the map it will load a totally new set off images. It isn’t the end of the world for Call of Duty 4, but making sniper scope reflections accurate would have provided another level of strategic depth to the game.

Step 1. Equip Overkill in your 2nd Perk slot.

Step 2. Choose any non-MP44 Assault Rifle for your Primary and Secondary Weapons.

Step 3. Select Primary and Secondary Weapons and choose the Grenade Launcher attachment for each Call of Duty weapon.

Now all you have to do is join any Call of Duty 4 game and enjoy your enhanced Noobtube ammo. Depending on which Assault Rifles you equipped the rounds are either split evenly 2:2 between each gun or you get a choice of splitting them 3:1 or 2:2 . From what I can tell if you have either the G36c or the M4 as one of your weapons the grenades you can split as high as 3:1, for everything else you are stuck at 2:2. As for choosing which Assault Rifles to use I like to use ones that have complement each others weaknesses and strengths. For example coupling the G3 to give you long range sniping abilities, and the AK47 for close range combat gives you some nice versatility.

In my opinion classes with four grenade launchers are virtually always better than any other class. This is simply because of the inherent power explosives have, no matter how much people like to trash the Noobtube it is a powerful attachment no matter how you cut it. That said being able to have four Grenade Launchers in Call of Duty 4 is just too powerful and I cannot fathom why the game designers made it possible. It is possible it was just another overlooked glitch, in which case I hope it is fixed in the Call of Duty 1.8 patch.

I thought you would still be here. Call of Duty 4 was designed with the intention that sniping could only be done at long range, not in mid and close range combat situations. There is good reason for this, sniper rifles are the only weapons that can consistently kill an enemy in one shot and making that possible at all ranges would be overpowered. But today I am going to teach you how you can consistently get no scope kills with the sniper rifle in Call of Duty 4 and how to use the sniper to win close range firefights. This strategy is incredibly powerful if used correctly because it enables you to get one shot kills while all your teammates need 3-4 shots to get a kill in Call of Duty.

Step 1. The first thing you have to do is to become an aggressive sniper is make a sniping class that will consistently one shot kill. If you read our Sniper Class Review you would know that this means you want the M21 for Hardcore matches and the Barrett .50 Cal or M40A3 with Stopping Power as Perk 2 for normal matches. The other perks are up to you, if you are new to Sniping though I would suggest Iron Lungs for Perk 3 though. You should also consider using the ACOG instead of the normal scope, but it is not required. We have one more bit of preparation though before you get to trying out this technique.

Step 2. For this next step you are going to need a marker (preferably red), clear Scotch tape, Scissors and the computer monitor/television you are using to play Call of Duty on.After you have gotten those cut out a tiny square of Scotch tape around 1/8 of an inch on each side. Now color in the side of the tape that isn’t sticky with your marker. Next open Call of Duty and join any game and choose a class any class that has a red dot sight on it’s weapon and then aim down your red dot sight. I am not responsible for any damage that may to your screen/television for this next part; I have tried it on my LCD and had absolutely no trouble so it should be okay. Take that piece of tape we made earlier and stick on your monitor directly on top of the red dot, this should be in the exact center of your screen. Check out the photo at right of what the finished product should look like, note the red speck in the middle of the screen which is the tape. The area you have just marked is the exact center of your screen as is relevant to Call of Duty. It is also the exact position all weapons will zoom to whenever you aim down your sights or look through a scope sniping. So how do we use this little piece of tape to dominate sniping Call of Duty?

Step 3. Lets get some hands on action now, equip your player with the sniping class we made in the first step and join any game. Try pointing your red piece of targeting tape at any old object and then aim through your scope. Your scope should zoom in on the exact position of your red tape. In terms of long range sniping this targeting tape has already helped us immensely because now you can point that tape on your target, zoom and fire without having to adjust your aim after scoping. More importantly we can use this tape to accurately no scope targets, thus making the sniper rifle aiming fast enough for it to be used as a close range weapon. Aim your tape so that is on a target, press the button to aim down your sights and the moment you see the glimpse of your sights coming up press fire. If you timed it correctly your bullet will have gone precisely where your tape is, and you will have no scoped killed your first target. You need to wait for the scope to be fully brought up to your eye, if you shoot any sooner than that the bullet will veer wildly as if you were hip firing. You need to practice the technique a bit to get a cadence going to time the pause between scoping and firing. Once you get good enough you will be able to rush into the heat of battle with your sniper rifle, aim the tape to the target and quickly scope, fire netting yourself a kill.

Learning this isn’t the easiest thing in the world and it takes practice so if you have questions please post them in the comments section. Once you get good though it is your play with snipers will improve immensely and you will likely be one of the best Call of Duty players around.

When you reload your weapon you may have noticed that there is a little bit of extraneous time after you have finished reloading the weapon when player continues messing around with it. This extra reload action does nothing and wastes valuable time. This method works in Hardcore Call of Duty matches, but it is easiest to learn in a normal match where the bullets left in a clip are shown. Pay careful attention to that indicator in the bottom right hand corner which shows how many rounds you have left in the clip(image at right). What you want to do is fire a few rounds and reload your weapon just like you normally would. Wait for that indicator to show that your magazine has been replenished. The second that happens press sprint, fire your weapon or aim down your sights to stop that extra reload motion. Most people look at the motion of the players hand and assume the reload has finished when the hands stop moving. Waiting for hands instead of looking at the indicator to happen wastes roughly half a second.

After you have mastered it using the indicator you can switch over to the more difficult Hardcore matches. In Hardcore Call of Duty matches you have to use the instincts you acquired earlier to time when you can halt the reload motion, there is not hard and fast rule. Here you have to be careful of halting the reload motion to early, if you do your weapon won’t be reload at all and you will have to restart the reload motion all over.

This may not seem like it would make a big difference but Call of Duty is a game of inches and milliseconds, and every single one can make the difference between life and death.
