For those of you who also play COD5, this is patch 1.5 for Call of Duty: World at War and includes the Map Pack 2.

What’s new in Call of Duty 5: World at War Patch 1.5:

• 3 new MP maps: Banzai, Corrosion, Sup Pens!
• 1 new Zombie map with a new weapon (the Wunderwaffe DG-2), flaming Hell Hounds, new traps, and more: Shi No Numa!
• CO-OP hosts can now kick players from their lobby
• Improved dog spawning in MP
• Addressed an issue with Zombie pathing
• Fixed an instance of the player model displaying incorrectly
• Some unhandled exception errors have been addressed
• Improved server browsers refresh functionality when the Source is set to Favorites
• Added support for CODTV
• cg_DrawFPS 1 now only displays FPS and cg ms/frame
• Added RCon command “teamstatus” to display players team information
• Mods: Added joinsquad script function
• Mods: Players can now join CO-OP lobbies that are hosting map names with more than eighteen characters
• Mods: Users can now load custom maps when the usermaps folder contains fifty or more custom maps
• Mods: Removed the loading of duplicate assets that contributed to the 2048 materials error
• Mods: Increased the amount of mods displayable in the Mods menu
• Mods: Fixed a crash related to the mod.arena file

Call of Duty 4 is all about positioning yourself so that you can see enemy players. If you can see the enemy you can shoot them, and if you can shoot them you can kill them which is what the game is all about. To acquire the line of sight to see enemy players most people position themselves in high places but on some maps the best way to see enemy players is by getting your face in the dirt and going prone. Two great examples of maps where going prone will allow to see the enemy players in Call of Duty 4 are Countdown and Wet Work.

Countdown is a totally open map outside of the large shields around the missile silos. As you can see in the image above by going prone though you can see the entire map. You have a full range of movement if you position yourself just in the indent formed by the missile silo and can also adjust your height as needed. It can be difficult just getting kills by shooting enemy players feet but for most weapons you do just as much damage hitting them in the foot with a bullet as you would hitting them in the chest with a bullet. Infinity Ward has kept up the PC version of Call of Duty 4 updated regularly with patches; up until this point. From rumors circulating online it would appear that there will be no 1.8 patch coming to Call of Duty 4 PC players unless a huge exploit or monumental change to the game occurs.
Console players are also going to be out of updates after the new game types and playlists are updated.

This is disappointing given how well received the 1.7 patch/map pack was. It is also troublesome because a number of obvious glitches still exist in the game, the G3 knifing bug and various wall glitches to name a few. The PC version of the game also totally lacks the new kill cams that console players got, which were supposed to be released in the 1.7 patch but were pulled at the last second due to technical difficulties. This is by no means signals the death of Call of Duty 4 though, the game continues to be wildly popular on both the console and PC. This will likely remain true even after Call of Duty: World at War comes out, just based on how popular COD2 still is.

As some of our observant readers may have noticed we have a completely new design for COD4SOURCE. This will be a permanent change in an effort to make the site a bit easier to read and make it look better overall. I will be making some small tweaks to the design, and please let me know what you think of the new design and what changes you would make. Your feedback is important here and I will take all suggestions under advisement, and make changes as a result. For example, what do you think of the new header image? Is the color of links okay? Is the body text readable?

There have been rumors of giving new game type abilities to Call of Duty 4 console Xbox and PS3 players for awhile, but they have finally been confirmed. A description of each new Call of Duty gametype to be added is below, no word on exactly when they will be coming out though.

Search and Destroy with Multiple Bombs – Same as normal S&D except instead of one bomb, everybody gets one. This prevents endless bomb camping and gives players with slower internet connections the chance to plant a bomb for once. The downside is it takes away from some of the classic S&D strategy that goes on.

Hardcore Free For All – Just what it sounds like, normal free for all mode except everyone starts at 30 health instead of 100 which amounts to around ten times more run and gun.

Hardcore Headquarters – Headquarters only bullets do more damage, there is no HUD, and most importantly Friendly Fire is on. The idea behind Friendly Fire being on is that it will prevent endless amounts of nade spam at the Headquarters position because people will be too afraid of killing their teammates. In practice though I doubt it will change Headquarters game play at all.

Bare Bones Team Death Match – Team Death Match without perks or kill streak benefits. This promises to be the most interesting game type, what will people do without being able to whine about Martyrdom and Airstrikes? I do admit though this is probably an improvement over the normal TDM games.

This won’t mean much to all the PC players Call of Duty out there who already have access to these gametypes, except for Barebones TDM which is not avaiable unless you are playing on modded servers. Hopefully with the 1.8 patch PC players will be seeing a Barebones gametype available on normal Call of Duty 4 servers.
