<p><strong>COD4 Console Commands</strong> are a great tool to improve your Call of Duty experience. To open the console simply press the ~ key which is located directly below the escape key. I see a lot of people online trying to type commands into chat, this doesn&#8217;t work, you need to open the console. Then you can type in the commands, note they all begin with the key, located directly above the Enter key.</p>
<h2>Lets take a look at some of the more useful and commonly used COD4 Console Commands.</h2>
<p><strong>cg_drawFPS 1</strong></p>
<p>Displays your FPS (Frames Per Second) in the upper right hand corner. The higher your FPS the smoother the game runs, the lower your FPS the choppier the game runs.</p>
<p><strong>cg_drawFPS 0</strong></p>
<p>Turns off the FPS display in the upper right hand corner. Note that that 0 turns off any command while 1 turns it on.</p>
<p><strong>cg_drawlagometer 1</strong></p>
<p>Creates a graph in the lower left hand corner of your screen. For the top meter in the graph you want it to be mostly blue. Blue means you are refreshing in sync with the server and everything is going good. Yellow is bad, it means you are out of sync with the server. Don&#8217;t panic if you have a little bit of yellow, but you still want most of it to be blue. For the bottom meter you want it to be green. Green means your packet transfer is smooth, red and yellow are bad and means your data transfer is flaky.</p>
<p><strong>cg_FOV 80</strong></p>
<p>This changes your visible field of view from 65 degrees to 80 degrees. It essentially moves you back so you can see a wider area. The drawback is that everything then appears smaller. I don&#8217;t know if it is better to have a larger FOV, I think it is mostly based on personal preference.</p>

<p></strong> &#8211; This will load the given map.<br />
<strong>/map_rotate</strong> &#8211; This will load the next map of the rotation. This is set in the &#8216;sv_maprotation&#8217; file on your server.<br />
<strong>/map_restart</strong> &#8211; This will restart the current map.<br />
<strong>/fast_restart</strong> &#8211; This will restart the current map just like /map_restart but is much faster as it will not load the map again. It will just restart the map.<br />
<strong>/status</strong> &#8211; This shows information about the connected players. This includes the client ID, score, ping, GUID, name and IP address. The ID and name can be used for the following commands.<br />
<strong>/tell [player id]</strong> &#8211; This will display a message to a specific player. The ID is given with the /status command.<br />
<strong>/clientkick [player id]</strong> &#8211; This will kick a player according to its ID (given with the /status command).<br />
<strong>/kick [player name]</strong> &#8211; This will do the same as the /clientkick command, but this command requires the player&#8217;s name. However, some names are very difficult to enter (with colour codes etc.), thats why the /clientkick commands is easier in use. You can use &#8216;all&#8217; as player name, this will kick all players from the server.<br />
<strong>/onlykick [player name]</strong> &#8211; Does the same as /kick as far as I know.<br />
<strong>/banClient [player id]</strong> &#8211; This command will ban a player according to its ID. The player&#8217;s GUID will be added to ban.txt.<br />
<strong>/banUser [player name]</strong> &#8211; This command does the same as the /banclient command. However, this requires you to fill in the player&#8217;s name, it is therefore advised to use the /banclient command (names can be long or contain colour codes).<br />
<strong>/tempBanClient [player id]</strong> &#8211; This will temporary ban a player using the player&#8217;s ID. The length of a temporary ban can be changed in the server configuration file.<br />
<strong>/tempBanUser [player name]</strong> &#8211; This will temporary ban a player using the player&#8217;s name.<br />
<strong>/unbanUser [player name]</strong> &#8211; This will unban a user according to the player&#8217;s name. If the player&#8217;s name appears more than once in ban.txt, you can edit the file and remove the banned player manually.<br />
<strong>/dumpuser [player name]</strong> &#8211; This will give information about the player.<br />
<strong>/killserver</strong> &#8211; As the name says, it will shut your server down.</p>
<p><strong>RCON usage</strong><br />
It is very likely that you are not playing at the same location (IP address) as your server is. Thats where we use RCON (= remote control) commands for. Using RCON is very easy, just add &#8216;/rcon &#8216; in front of the commands above (removing the &#8216;/&#8217; of those commands). But before you can use RCON, you will have to login:<br />
<strong>/rcon login [password]</strong> &#8211; Fill in the password of the server and you can use RCON commands.</p>

<p><strong>More (useless) commands</strong><br />
<strong>/serverstatus</strong> &#8211; This will give you information about the server settings and a quick list of online players.<br />
<strong>/serverinfo</strong> &#8211; This will give you some diversified about IW settings on your server and some useless information.<br />
<strong>/systeminfo</strong> &#8211; This will give you a list of the settings your server has.<br />
<strong>/clientinfo</strong> &#8211; This will give you information about the yourself as client.<br />
<strong>/showip</strong> &#8211; This will provide your IP address.<br />
<strong>/cmdlist</strong> &#8211; This will show a complete list of commands available.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>It&#8217;s the weekend so we are taking break from the serious Call of Duty 4 Strategy related stuff and looking at a cute little easter egg in the game. If you have ever looked at the back of a black or golden Mini Uzi closely you may have noticed there is a small dirt smudge of what appears to be a fingerprint on the back of the weapon. Take a look at the two images below to see what I am talking about, englarged enhanced image is on the right.</p>

<p>To me the ovalish shape and lines look like a fingerprint of a thumb; but feel free to share any other theories you have. No other weapons have dirt smudges of any sort and the smudge is on a part of the weapon that the players hand never touch when reloading. My theory is that one of the game developers scanned their actual fingerprints and threw that image on the Uzi. Do any site members have experience in identifying fingerprints or access to a fingerprint database so we can try to figure out who the prints belong to? In any case feel free to comment with your own thoughts/theories.</p>

<p><strong>AimBots</strong> &#8211; An automated program like the own in the video above that aims puts your sights quickly and perfectly on the target players head. Most aimbots while efficient at getting kills, are extremely easy to identify because the rate of kills and number of headshots are so unnatural. There are aimbots which try to be more natural looking, but to an observant player they are easy to foil.<br />

<p><strong>WallHacks</strong> &#8211; A program that shows enemy players silhouettes in bright colors through walls and all types of materials. Wallhacks are often coupled with aimbots to get even more kills. It is more dangerous and difficult to stop when wallhacks are used alone. As long as the player doesn&#8217;t make it incredibly obvious that they have an wall hack by getting a huge amount of kills with bullet penetration, they can claim they just got lucky or they saw knew the enemy thanks to a UAV. People that use hacks are usually not this subtle about getting kills, because their end goal is to be the center of attention. If you suspect someone is wall hacking though try equipping UAV Jammer and a silenced weapon, if they continue to get unbelievable kills through walls chances are they are wall hacking. Take a look at the video below for an example.</p>

<p><strong>Speed Hacks </strong> &#8211; Also related to lag hacks, essentially a hack that allows the player to move more quickly than anyone else. Speed hacks can be done by messing with the data packets as they travel to the server or by simply hacking the game to make you move faster. This can make players move at light speed or appear to disappear and reappear across the map. Lag hacks can be difficult to stop because the player can just claim that the server or his internet connection is causing the issue. Even then though lagging player can just be kicked.</p>
<p><strong>Glitching</strong> &#8211; The only hack that doesn&#8217;t require some sort of external program or support. Glitching is simply taking advantage of problems with the games coding, whether it is jumping outside of the normal map area or being able to see through walls on some buildings. Glitching is banned on most, but not all servers and is easy to prevent and identify if the server has spectator mode or kill cams enabled.</p>
<p>Stopping hacking and aimbots is important for the health of COD4 and any other video game out there. So what can be done to stop hacking? Monitoring systems like Punkbuster are easy to get around and often cause more problems for legitimate players. Unless they improve by leaps and bounds hackers will be able to stay ahead of them. The best solution is vigilant players and server admins. In particular the voting system in Call of Duty 4 which allows a majority of players to kick a hacking player is a good start. At this point though the voting system is hackable to rig the voting which means it to is far from perfect. There is no perfect solution, the best thing you can do is minimize your risk by playing with players you trust and an active administrator.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Playing Call of Duty 4 is a team effort, whether you are LANing with your friends, playing with strangers online, or joining up with your clan for a scrimmage. The team aspect of Call of Duty means coordinating between players is very important. Your fate and your teams fate often go hand in hand; ever notice that if your team is losing a game you tend to have a lower Kill Death Ratio? That&#8217;s the team part of Call of Duty for you. Getting your team to work perfectly as a unit is a pretty hard thing to do, particularly if you are just playing with strangers online. So to help improve team relations here are 7 things to avoid that would piss off your teammates in Call of Duty 4.</p>
<p><strong>1. Blocking Doorways</strong> &#8211; It only takes one guy to sit in the middle of a doorway and create an impassable traffic jam. Eventually the problem will be solved when an opponent tosses a grenade into the doorway and kills everyone, but it that isn&#8217;t exactly an optimal solution. Sometimes you will get lucky and simply asking the blocking player to move will solve the problem. If friendly fire is on knifing them in the back also works.<br />

<strong>2. Aimbotting</strong> &#8211; Besides hurting the other team this actually pisses off everyone on your team too. That&#8217;s because you in your infinite aimbotting skills are stealing all of your teams kills. Aimbotting in Call of Duty 4 is cheating and bad for everyone, don&#8217;t do it. </p>
<p><strong>3. Team Killing</strong> &#8211; Blatant intentional team killing is an obvious problem, but solvable by simply kicking the player. Unintentional team killing by a wild bullet or nade is a much more difficult problem to solve though. The person that got shot is angry that they have to wait respawn, and shooter should feel guilty for both hurting their team and wasting the time of their fellow gamers. The solution is to turn off Martyrdom and not blindly spam nades in hope of getting a kill. If you really like those things though you can always play on servers where friendly fire is off. </p>
<p><strong>4. Not Going for the Objective</strong> &#8211; This is a big problem on Call of Duty Search and Destroy servers. If the player is facing what they perceive as insurmountable odds they will just camp out instead of trying to plant/defuse the bomb. They usually do this to try and keep their KDR high. If you want a high KDR you should be playing Team Deathmatch where a high KDR is the objective, not Search and Destroy. Not playing Call of Duty correctly is selfish, unfun, and guaranteed to annoy all players involved.</p>
<p><strong>5. Fighting in Text/Voice Chat</strong> &#8211; Having insane 10 year olds screaming terrible insults at everyone in voice chat is annoying, but when seemingly mature adults to it it&#8217;s even worse. In that same vein racial slurs and excessive profanity are equally bad. Just remember no matter how real it is, Call of Duty is a game. </p>
<p><strong>6. Breaking Server Rules</strong> &#8211; Server rules are there for a reason, and by joining a server you should expect to follow the rules the people that pay for the server decide on. If you don&#8217;t like these rules just leave and find another server to play on. Remember game servers are private essentially owned privately, so you cannot invoke your First Amendment rights to act like a jerk.</p>
<p><strong>7. Being Terrible at Call of Duty</strong> &#8211; This is the most forgivable offense of the 7 listed here, but still something you should try to avoid. Everyone knows that player who just can&#8217;t seem to grasp how to play the game, they accidentally throw themselves off 3 story buildings, don&#8217;t know how to use their weapons and just generally are bad at Call of Duty. Everyone was a noob at one time though, so the best thing you can do is encourage the player to keep on trying and give them a couple of tips to improve at the game. </p>

<p>Awhile back I made a post to give everyone an opportunity to ask any question they wanted about this site and Call of Duty 4 in general. Questions that may have not fit in the comments sections of other posts but were still relevant to Call of Duty. You can view the original post <a title="here" href="http://cod4source.com/cod4source-mailbag-ask-questions-about-cod4" target="_blank">here</a>. I didn&#8217;t get many questions in the comments section, but received quite a few by email. So are those questions, with my responses for everyone to see.</p>
<p><strong>Whats the overall best weapon in Call of Duty 4?</strong></p>
<p>The many unique game and map types coupled with the relatively even balance of weapon strengths make it difficult to choose one weapon as the best. Just my answer is not a total cope out, I will give in what my opinion is the overall strongest weapon in Call of Duty 4. That weapon is the RPD.<span id="more-127"></span> With Stopping Power in normal matches it two shots the enemy and in hardcore matches it one shots without any aid of perks. Couple this with a high rate of fire and low recoil with the grip and you have yourself a pretty strong gun. Again there is no single right answer for the overall best weapon, but this is my opinion on the matter.</p>
<p><strong>I really like your site, what can I, as a reader do to help improve it?</strong></p>
<p>The goal of this site is to help people improve at Call of Duty 4, so if you read the site and learn something you have already helped this site and Call of Duty 4 overall. Beyond that linking to and discussing articles on the site with others via online forums, the comments section, email or carrier pigeon is a great way to accomplish the end goal of helping people improve at Call of Duty 4. In regards to the comment section please feel free to argue or disagree with any of the articles, they are not always right and everyone including myself cant benefit from a little spirited debate.</p>
<p><strong>What perks and weapons do you feel are to overpowered and should be removed from gameplay?</strong></p>
<p>I would remove Martyrdom all together and maybe nerf the 3x Frag Grenade perk. The general concept behind Martyrdom isn&#8217;t terrible, having some way to still kill people after you should be dead can be a cool and balanced perk. Last Stand was the correct way to fulfill this idea, it is easy for other players to answer, doesn&#8217;t contribute to the huge amount of stupid explosions going on. On that same note I would tone down the power level of 3 Frag grenades somehow. With even a small number of players the game can quickly to degrade to people lobbing grenades over walls back and forth without any real interaction going on. Games like that aren&#8217;t fun and do not properly test the skill of players</p>
<p><strong>If you could add one perk to the game what would it be?</strong></p>
<p>I would add a perk called &#8220;Longshot&#8221; that increases the range of weapons by somewhere between 25% and 50%. It could serve as a possible replacement for Stopping Power on Assault Rifles and Sub Machine Guns and bring out of the dungeon of underplayed weapons.</p>
<p><strong>I have trouble seeing enemies before they see me and therefore spend a lot of time getting shot, how can I change this?</strong></p>
<p>Seeing the enemy before they see you is one of the most important aspects of Call of Duty 4. Even if you have great aim and can hit a watermelon from across the map that won&#8217;t help you if you get shot without being able to see who did it to you. Playing the game a lot will get your visual senses attuned to seeing targets even when they are heavily obscured and camouflaged. You also have to get in the habit of checking corners and rooms before you enter them so you don&#8217;t walk into an ambush. Finally listening closely to sounds basically lets you see through walls and around corners. This isn&#8217;t possible for all games like 30 person TDM matches where explosions are happening every second. But in other games like Hardcore Search and Destroy the game can become totally silent at times, and even the slightest motion can tip of the enemy to your location.</p>

But what a player is wearing and their camouflage can become very important if you are trying to take cover from enemy sniper fire. The Spetnez and SAS clothing is virtually the same and the minor differences on each side balance each other out.</p>
<p>Then there is the comparison between the OpFor and Marine clothing in Call of Duty, which is totally imbalanced. All the Marine clothing classes have nice beige desert colored clothing that blends with the generally beige maps. The OpFor on the other hand are mostly stuck with bright red hats and clothing. Take a look at screenshots below of the two sniper outfits for the Marines and OpFor if you don&#8217;t believe me. The OpFor sniper is placed at a significant disadvantage because you can spot that red hot without a scope from a mile off. This is more of a disadvantage for OpFor snipers but many of the other OpFor clothing classes are also brightly adorned in red. Now I don&#8217;t know whether or not this is realistic, but it presents a pretty huge game imbalance that really shouldn&#8217;t be there even if it is accurate in real life.</p>

That said this is just another example of how realism doesn&#8217;t necessarily guarantee good gameplay.</p>

We take the huge amount effort required to create these games for granted, because all we have to do is pop a disk in and play. All that work is not for free though, video game companies and their employees reap huge profits from creating a successful title. For people like myself, who love video games, creating them for a living would be a dream job. Before you take that huge jump into getting a job in video games you have to consider many things, like applying to a video game design college.<br />

So what goes into designing Call of Duty 4? And more importantly what does it take to become a video game designer? Video game design takes place at many different levels. The video game creation team needs to coordinate game mechanics, programing, graphics creation, audio and tons of other things. To organize everything video game design is generally centered around a core plan written before any work is done. That plan is a living document and is heavily modified and adjusted as time goes on and the game is tested. Once the plan is written you get on to the real hands on work. There are programmers writing code, artists designing graphics, audio engineers recording the soundtrack and writers creating the script and storyline for the game. This group of people are the ones that make that abstract plan into an actual working game. Jobs doing this hands on work is where there is the most demand for motivated and skilled individuals.</p>
<p>So what do you need to do to become a video game developer? Well if you are reading this far down into the article you definitely have some sort of motivation and aspiration to get a career in the video game industry, so you have that out of the way. What you might not have right now is the education and skills to do the actual work. Technical skills like computer animation, C++ programming, 3D engine architecture, artificial intelligence, and many many others. These are obviously complex fields and to learn about them you are going to need to get a formal education at a school totally devoted to video game design. If you have any interest in video game development just fill out this simple form to start the process to become a video game designer.</p>
