I’m 3 presige and i have higher scores than alot of people in 10 presige and my kill streak is 44 it was with the m40 it’s bad ass I also dont die but once or twice in a match sometime’s I don’t die at all COD4 is alsome

r700 is kickass i think its the best u just need iron lungs and a bit of practise and then its awesome!
M40 is clearly the best sniper! if your a skilled sniper ur not going to need the semi-automatic gun in hardcore so that takes away your M21. And barret way to much recoil for Regular because in reg most people will be moving around with jug and if you shoot them once and fail at the torso or head shot your target is lost, because coming down from the recoil you notice your target has fled. R700 Very good as the publisher said for rushing classes because stopping power does not matter. so in hardcore its useless, and u can use the M40 as the same rushing class but with less scope sway. And the Dragunov is a good sniper not for regular because its low damage and its recoil for a semi-automatic is bad, unless ur bored and want to put an acog on it and run around doing no-scopes and shooting randomly. So overall the M40 is the best you get good damage in regular with stopping power and without if its a high shot and in hardcore you can use for Noscoping, steady and skilled shots, or rushing class because u wont need the stopping power in harcore.

I like the m40 simply because of barly any recoil and with stoping power its always one shot one kill
The m40 is the biggest noob weapon. The reason why it is so effective is because its for lvl 5 beginners. If you need the m40 to snipe with then do not snipe at all. I have no respect for ANYBODY using the m40 ACOG. The normal scope i have some tolerance fore but if you arent aiming for a 1 shot kill at long range, your not a sniper, the m40 is a ood no-scope because noobs will be causgt off guard with enemies, Certain guns like this should be blocked after lvl 30 because theres no need for it. (also the worst hit detection for the head so it forces you to 1 shot kill the body because noobs do not aim for the head)

What you missed in this review is that the R700 has better accuracy than the .50 Cal, but the exactly the same everywhere else except RPM. If you’re sniping, accuracy is the most important thing after damage. So IMO the R700 is the best.

Nick, you clearly have no skill in sniping, M40A3 is the best Sniper bar none. I’m guessing your on of the people who runs and guns using the M21 and consider yourself a sniper
im sorta a noob at 32 but i wanna find the best sniper possible with 1shot kill any suggestions?
I prefer the r700 because of the accuracy and the high power! the m40 is awesome with the ACOG but not with the real scope.
My good sniper would be all of them. Im really good at sniping. But I like the Dragonov the best.

I usually use the Dragunov coz ive got it gold n like to show off, but also coz it does beasty damage. A shot in chest or above will usually kill instantly and if you miss the chest, you can usually follow up with a quick 2nd shot because of reasonably low recoil.
If im on a big map or one great for snipin eg pipeline or overgrown ill use the .50 cal. little tip, DO NOT ACOG a sniper, its easier to scope, hold and fire than to scope n wait for the arrow to roll over your target. The only time ill use an M40 or R700 is when i find one on the floor and can get a snipe in at some point.
My sniper class: Dragunov (gold) or .50 cal (red tiger), silenced USP .45, claymore, UAV jammer and Iron Lungs. try it n see what you get.

To be honest I really Enjoy the M40A3 in regual gametypes and hardcore it’s just my kind of sniper. I can’t use the simi auto ones that well.

The .50 cal, hands down, is the best sniper rifle in COD 4 for NUMEROUS reasons.
1.) Accuracy: amongst all snipe rifles is the same. You stead your breath, aim, fire and all shots, regardless of the rifle, will go EXACTLY to the same place. Having an accuracy rating for snipe rifles is a farce.
2.) Stopping Power: NUMEROUS times I have hit somebody with a M40 with Stopping Power dead in their torso, center mass, WITHOUT Juggernaut and they only flinch and move away only for me to get a ‘+2′ for somebody finishing him off. I am so tired of teh M40 FAILING to kill people that don’t even have Juggernaut, on the first shot. It does happen from time-to-time with the .50 cal but not nearly as much. If you want to put someone down on the first shot, use the .50
3.) Recoil: Yes the .50 cal has more recoil than the M40 but the game models after realism. The .50 cal’s design is linear, like the M16 so the gun doesn’t necessarily jump up but BACK. In addition, the .50 cal has springs and pistons that help absorb the recoil whereas the traditional M40 has a synthetic stock and jumps UP after firing, but not that much. Many of my friends who use the M40 state that for follow-up shots, the M40 is better but why would you need a follow-up shot if the .50 puts them down on the first one. In times where there are multiple targets, I can take 3-4 people down in just a matter of 2 seconds. The .50 cal can fire off second, third and 4th shots with hi accuracy compared to what most noobs think.
4.) Mag size: The .50 cal can help you stay alive longer simply due to the fact that it holds more ammo per mag and requires less reloading. How many times has a sniper been killed when reloading or just as bad, LOSES an enemy he could have shot at beause he was relaoding.
5.) CQB: There WILL be times when someone gets a little too close for comfort when you are sniping. Good luck on taking an enemy down under pressure and at close range with a bolt action that only hold 5 rounds. By the time you fire one round from your M40, you already have about 15 rounds heading towards you. At least with the .50, you cna use it as some kind of semi-auto cannon firing off multiple shots to take down an enemy very close to you. I’ve done it numerous times and I KNOW I would have died if I had an M40.
Overall, the .50 cal is the best rifle because it is JUST as accurate as all the other snipe rifles but actually puts people down, even thoswe with Juggernaut MORE than any other snipe rifle. Youc an even use it to take down choppers! It has a large mag, good recoil control, high rate of fire. It is simply the best snipe rifle in COD 4 without question. Take it from a guy who has a 2.58 Kill/Death Ratio.
the M40 is the best sniper if u r a real sniper with it,no ACOG! the Barrett is the 2nd best simply because its good at picking off all the noob snipers who use ACOG’s.I personally think the r700 sucks cuz it has such a low ammo round size. the best 1 shot kill sniper though is the M40A3!

okay, the barrett is a noob gun. most ppl will not prestige because they dont wanna loose that precious barrett. the m40 is the best hands down. its good for any thing. you can have overkill with it and it still be just as effective on hardcore. the barrett, r700, and dragonav all have way too much recoil for you to be accurate with. the m21 is only good for hardcore. so m40 all the way
Ha you say the barret is a noob gun when u say u use the m40. I mean I’ve used the m40 for a time it was a pretty good gun, but there was to many juggernoobs on gamebattles so I started using the .50 cal and it kicks ass. Also u have to actually earn the barret so it’s not a noob gun like the m40. Lastly, if u want good power for a sniper ur gonna have to deal with recoil, I mean it’s just pyshics.
M40 is for NOOBS……..50 cal is best & dragunov is second best with overkill perk…

I haven’t really tried all the snipers, when i started playing CoD4 i checked most of the movies to pick up some tips, almost everyone used M40A3.
Maybe that has changed now, but i still use it and it’s very good.
M40A3: Good beginner weapon, but won’t win matched up against a semi-auto.
M21: Okay for spamming, recoil is usually underrated. Was my favorite for quite a while.
Dragunov: Has beautifully low recoil, allowing you to take down targets quickly. Great all-around.
R700: The only reason I use this gun is because it looks cool
(or if I want a challenge) it’s usually not practical.
.50 Cal: Anti-material rifle. In CoD4, you are not taking down material, thus not needing an anti-material rifle. Anti-personnel (the other sniper rifles) would be more fitting.
So, overall, I think the M21 wins.
i always used an m4 with a red dot scope, but i keep getting owned by snipers. what is the exacty set up reccomended (i read the entire page and need a bottom line reccomendation) i shot with them all and im fair with them all. i only want to take the time to get good with one of them, suggestions?
R700 is the Best..! (.50 Cal 2nd)

M4OA3 is clearly the best .. its the most accurate when going for the ‘one shot one kill’
Otherwise use the R700 – it may not be as accurate, but its powerfull.
i suggest to use both with ’stopping power’ and ‘iron lungs’
No offense, but I think that the r700 is the best, and recoil doesn’t really matter if you use a bolt action. It is stronger than the m40a3, more accurate than the m21, dragonuv and barrett.50 cal, and with stopping power, the r700 will land a torso kill even if the enemy has stopping power. Also if you follow the one shot kill rule with sniping, which anyone should, clip size doesn’t matter. Next I like the m40a3, which to me seems the most accurate.

I dislike the m21 because if you don’t hold your breath long enough or at all, it has very poor accuracy, and I hate people who fire off like 4 shots to kill, because that doesn’t take any skill.

I think that the .50 cal is the best sniper (only from past experiances). I currently use the Dragunov because it is semi-auto and has low reciol, allowing you to maybe not 1 hit kill, but at most 3 hit, and 3 hit is quite fast with semi-auto. My favourite sniper is the M40A3. I don’t actually scope, I ACOG. I use the ACOG becuase of 2 reasons:
1) I like using its 1-hit kill ability to take down enimies close up.
2) Me and my friend were online, against eachother. He was using Dragunov, me M40A3 with ACOG. I headshotted him peice of cake. Beastly kill. Same accuracy as normal scope but with less range, kind of meaning more skill.

I do agree with Mental4lyf-Neo about the m40a3 being the best ACOG gun, but it doesn’t necessarily mean more skill to headshot with one. It’s honestly not that hard. Another reason I think that the r700 is the best sniper is when I versed my cousin online at ambush, I missed only two shots with the r700, and he didn’t kill me once until I was out of ammo, and he was using the dragunov with stopping power. Overall, the score ended up me having 25 kills and my cousin who used the dragunov killed me a total of 4 times. Also the best assault rifle to snipe with is the m4 carbine with an ACOG scope. Try it.

I now no longer use the m40a3, as getting kills is too hard.
As I do not prefer sniping as a fighting style, getting the acog was a challenge. I am only level 28, so I can’t use the r700 yet, so Dragunov or M21 is current choice. I like Dragunov, which is why I’m soon going to try for Blue Tiger with it, partly for the reason it is good close range aswell, just be a Trigger Happy asshole XD

M40 has larger clip, less sway, ACOG one hit kills anywhere, higher accuracy……. yeahh..
Dragunov > M21
Dragunov kills does not need stopping power, M21 does just to reach Dragunov damage, Dragunov leaves Perk 2 open to UAV Jammer, Juggernaut, Sleight of Hand, etc…… it’s better in every way except recoil.
Barrett kills in one hit to every where except limbs with Stopping Power, and it’s semi-automatic….. so it’s amazing in every way except recoil.

btw m40 is best, r700 ok but too much recoil, .50 cal too loud n makes u ALOT easier too be seen, NONE OF THE SNIPERS RIFLES WILL KILL WITHOUT STOPPING POWER ON REGULAR UNLESS IN HEAD OR NECK, CHEST SHOTS WILL NOT KILL IN ONE WITHOUT STOPPING POWER. HAV TRIED ON STILL TARGETS ON PRIVATE MATCH.
i believe the best sniper is M40A3 because i always choose accuracy over damage, whats the point of having all that power if you struggle to pull off one successful shot with the barret….as far as hardcore, M21 is the best sniper rifle, but i find the M14 with the acog is bettter because it has better accuracy when blind firing up close and shooting from far away, even though you cant hold your breath, its still steady and allows and open perk 3 like steady aim or dead silence… but thats just my opinion
id have to say htat the m40 and the r700 are pretty much my favorites. first match i unlocked acog 4 the m40 on wet work an i was already 17k for 3 deaths. and nick you are definitely a super noob
All of you who say the M40 is a noob gun are retarded. Look at all the tenth prestiges and u see most of them use the M40 because of its good accuracy and damage. Those are the most important things on a sniper and the M40 has good amounts of both. Barrett is pretty good, but the accuracy isn’t as good as the M40 and it has too much recoil. Don’t talk like you know the game is you really don’t cause you think that just cause you have to get to a higher level to get a gun doesnt mean its better than all the rest (ex. MP44 earned Lv.52 WORST WEAPON BESIDES M60 IN THE GAME).

Ok, i used to never snipe until i got the r700, i thought it was good with the damage it did, then i unlocked the barret 50.cal and just thought of trying it out and not intending to use it, i was still a nooby sniper and the very first match i used it i got a killstreak of 19 at bog. i use neither of these snipers anymore, i always use the m40a3 the accuracy is great and the power is good if u have Stopping Power.
So overall the best sniper would probaly be the barret 50.cal but the m40a3 with acog is my personal favourite

Honestly, Im all over the place with snipers. Ive won the golden drag countless times. There isnt really a ” best sniper” its all to do with preference. After a little whil you get used to your rifle, its just how it works….and if you dont get used to it…then dont snipe. I personally love bolt-action both m40 and r700 are equal to me, but every once in a while ill shake it up with a semi. This nick guy doesnt have his head on straight. The m40 is not a noob rifle, its there for anyone to use no matter what skill level they are. Call anyone of us noobs, either way you’ll still be the one put down first. If you want noob go get yourself an LMG
First, i hate ppl that say only noobs use whatever gun- if it was up to them we’d all be using the shittest guns coz all the rest of em are too noobish, so just shut up.
K for me the m40a3 is the best, coz its pretty much got the lot aye, and its the best for noscoping or trick sniping (how can u be a noob if u do that, coz its the hardest thing in the game to do), and i have nEver got colLateral damage with a semi auto sniper, but ive got about 10 with the m40- and collaterals are awesome. The m40 is the most fun, but the r700 is a real man’s sniper rifle, every kill wt it is an achievement
