In hardcore matches yes the Skorpion can be deadly at range. But in normal matches it takes at least 5 shots to get a kill at any sort of distance, and getting 5 shots on a target is not an easy task.

P90 vs. MP5 depends on many things. The P90 has a higher capacity which means it can be better when taking on large groups of enemies. You also have to consider the 40-20 damage of the MP5 and the 30-20 damage of the P90 and the recoil of each weapon.

I can’t test it on the console myself but yes secondary sources tell me that the P90 sprint bug has been fixed for consoles.

Skorpion is amazing in hardcore… but you need stopping power and steady aim. At first I hated sacrificing Jammer and dead silence but it makes up for it when you can take out snipers easily and run and gun just as well. I like it

I reckon the mini Uzi is one of the best weapon in h/c matches.I used it almost every time, although i have to agree P90 is far superior. When you aim with an Uzi, i found that the recoil becomes bigger however if you hip fire it, it’s fairly accurate, add some extreme conditioning + silencer and you will rape everyone in the match.
I love My Mini Uzi so much !!!

Well actually hard numbers on an SMG don’t matter much unless you’re half a map away.
Most of the time you’d be 10 meters from a guy. At that distance, plus all SMGs shoot at more than 10 rounds per second, you’d be dead in less than half a second even if some of your shots miss.
At mid range though, I’d think the MP5, P90 and Skorpion are the only SMGs accurate enough. I guess I don’t even have explain to you if you’re using a SMG for long range.
Anyway here are some of my findings –>
Hip fire wise, the mini-uzi is exceptionally accurate. No idea why. The others are roughly the same.
Aiming down the sight, definitely the skorpion, then the p90, ak74u, then the mp5.
For extended firefights, running around, the p90.
Silenced stalking, silenced skorpion since no one hears you firing at all. The others are still quite audible.
Hardcore – any gun is lethal. 1-2 shots kill.
Headshotting people – MP5 and Skorpion
ACOG – MP5 and Skorpion
RDS – P90
Naked – Skorpion, AK47u

Handling feel and sound(sound does matter) – MP5
Counter sniper work – Naked Skorpion on Stopping Power with Deep Impact and a VERY STEADY HAND and SHARP EYE.
Main advantages – P90(big clip), Skorpion(high sighted accuracy and NO recoil), Mini-Uzi(fast rpm and good hip fire accuracy), MP5&AK47u (all rounders and best feel-of-control)

I guess that it’s mainly personal preference as most guns are quite lethal. You have to like the gun to excel in it – the ‘feel’ of the gun is very important.
The only gripe I have is that the weapon bugs such as the AK47u Hip fire accuracy and p90 sprint distance haven’t been fixed.

Skorpion- kills with 4 bullets (SP) across the map. Would lowering it to 3 stop your crying?

AK74- Only smg with decent penetration. Same stats as the mp5 except the recoil is mostly verticle instead of batshit circular meaning you can actually hit something at a distance by pushing the thumstick/mouse down while firing. Would making it recoil like a cartoon fire hose make you happy?

Sorry to be a prick. I just hate the skorpion being considered “totally unplayable for normal matches” as a 4 bullet kill when it would be considered unstoppable as a 3 bullet killer considering it’s full auto accuracy.

The range doesnt matter, wether you are 20 meters away or 1000 it will still kill in 4 or less bullets if you’re using stopping power(aim for head) . use that in addition to a silencer so that they dont know where you are coming from seeing how the range is shit, a little less won’t make a difference. a sniper aiming down the scope usually doesnt have time to scope on you or run by the time he dies.

The Skorpian is the best weapon in the game, bar none.

in my experience scorpians suck a** just today the whole team had scorpians and i had a barrett and they wouldnt stop comming so i just owned then all… probally because they couldnt see me verry well even with an acog…….. but a sniper does have time so scope on you and kick your a** if he knows what hes doing

if you’ve never seen a 50 cal sniper “know what he was doing” you haven’t played me… also the only reason i use the Barrett is 4 the power and when somebody is hiding behind a wall and nobody can do anything about it quickly, so i come along and well, that’s that. the short range of the skorpion means that the damage decays faster over range compared to say, a sniper, which never decays. You still do damage, but after about 3 meters the skorpion is at its worst damage. skorpion still is awesome though

Question for the skorpion fans out there, how are you hitting targets with a silencer at any distance, let alone half a map away? Are the targets moving? Or is this only good for anti-sniping? After seeing all of these great remarks from the skorpion fans, I gave it a try and had a very hard time. Any pointers?

Like I said a long time ago (and this is only competitive server type stuff) but the report on a P90 is unique, meaning when you shoot it, everyone around you friend or foe will recognize it as a P90 determine your general location, and watch out for you. An MP5 is much more generic, meaning in an intense firefight, people are less likely to distinguish it from the rest of the fire around them.

Yes, you can put a silencer on a P90, and mask the report, but then you’ve gotta rely on that iron sight (which isn’t too bad), plus, you’ve got the lower range, making it less versatile.

IMO, MP5 > P90

I wouldn’t bother with the silencer personally, except in normal mode where you really need it. Just keep practicing or go to an acog or red dot. I use acog

Lots of comments, I’ll try to cover the main points that were raised.

On the AK74u vs. MP5, the differences between the weapons are incredibly small with recoil being the only deciding factor. In general I think the recoil on the MP5 is more manageable, but I can see how people could personally prefer the recoil of the AK74u. You also have to consider the hip accuracy bug of the AK74u which brings it’s hip accuracy to medium when equipped with red dot or silencer. In this case personal preference trumps any quantifiable variables I can come up with for the two weapons.

On the Skorpion being bad in non-hardcore matches, I fully stand behind this hypothesis. Let me rehash the concept of range, which people often misunderstand. The 200-400 range value for the Skorpion means at anything closer than 200 units of measure the Skorpion will do it’s full 50 damage. Once you go beyond that though the damage drops of until it hits it’s lowest point at 400 units with 20 damage. 400 units is an incredibly short distance, just a little more than three times the range of the knife. This means you will be basically always be shooting 20 damage shots. Sure it’s possible to get kills like this, but for non-hardcore matches it simply isn’t the best way to get kills when I could have my MP5 shotting 40-20 with a range of 750-1000. The bullet capacity of 20 is also terrible. Again, non hardcore games where you have 30 health changes everything, the Skorpion becomes quite playable.

The p90 is good, but not respectable in hardcore. It’s too overpowered. The Mp5 is amazing. The Skorpion with an ACOG (Yes, I know it looks ridiculous) is fantastic as well. Increases range, but recoil as well. I’ve used it for clan matches and paired with slight of hand I’d said that almost beats the mp5. (For hardcore of course)

whatever I am pissed at the skorp now. I just played three rounds in a row with it and got -10 – -17 on them. I didn’t even get a single AIR STRIKE. And I usually get a pretty good positive. But with the skorp I’m plying worse than I did when I first played the game.

@ 2 posts up. the ingame stats are wrong. range isn’t increased with acogs and the whole accuracy decreasing thing just means more gun sway.

I finally got the silencer for the skorp and I’m starting to do, well ok with it. But I’m having a little trouble aiming at peopl from a long range, any tips? I also noticed that it has a really small magzine and I find myself having to reload after every kill or two. Sould I use SoH to help with that or just keep SP. I’m still a long ways of from the gold mini uzi so I want to do as well as I can while I’m forced to use the skorp.

After reading all those coments, i thought to give the skorpion a try… i usually play mp5 (frag3,sopping power, steady aim – best perk for more Damage Boost), im not that pro but i kinda do ok/well with my mp5 class, anywayz i tried the skorpion, it didnt go well , but i noticed 1 thing: its the only weapon in the game so far i played with that has no problems in it exept for the small magzine. My question is: Overall in general whats the 2 best SMG’s / Assaults To Use in All Maps/Situations

Been using the scorp for the last couple days and have been really impressed it has unbelievable accuracy, all but instant kills at close range faster then even the p90, and next to no recoil. In response to the people questioning its sniping accuracy it has accuracy equal to the g3 and open sights to take advantage of it (no tunnel vision) easily picked a sniper off across crossfire. It also kills in four hits at max range with a silencer and no recoil which is less then a third of a second at its rate of fire. I think of it as an smg version of the M4. Have had good luck with the silencer on it and stopping power>

Mp5 is hands down the best, hardcore use red dot with UAV jammer, normal use a silencer with stopping power
Its just the best all around especially in search and destroy and while you shoot you can also move around with little recoil

Also M40 sniper is amazing 1 shot with stopping power great for accuracy and is a great mobile sniper unlike every other one except the M21, but the M21 is not usually one shot except in hardcore

Personally, I find the AK-74u to be the best SMG. It has very high power/rate of fire. Due to the fact I am a skilled CS:S player, I like the vertical recoil pattern over the circular pattern. AK-74u for life!

for hardcore search and destroy use the /mp5 silinced/clays or bomb sqad/slieght of hand/stedy aim or extreme conditioning thats what i use and i pwn

Lots of good discussion going on here, glad to see it. Adding the ACOG scope to the Skorpion does not change it’s range. In fact none of the SMG’s range is changed by any weapon attachments.

Note that the RDS on the Skorpion increases its recoil.

Also note that since the Skorpion has pretty much no range anyway, the silencer has no negative effects, since there’s no range to take away.

Hi, I don’t know if anyone has taken this into account, but there is a bug with the Skorpion when using a silencer on it. The accuracy increases instead of decreasing. Basically it comes down to the programmers leaving out a – (negative) in front of the decreasing value offset for the silencer add-on.

This image shows the left-side damage done with an ACOG scope, and the right-side damage done with an aimed silencer.

So if you take this into account, a silenced Skorpion is a whole new ballgame when combined with Stopping Power. Without Stopping Power, it’s still a rough gun in regular game-type play as it takes too many shots.

You can’t compare the acog to the silenced version of the skorp like that because the acog sways to begin with. Now, if you were to have the same picture and say you used naked skorp instead of acog-ed skorp, you would have something.

I perfer the MP5. Its like the only gun I use besides the R700. On normal matches I use the MP5 and usually come out with a awsome kill to death of avg. 25-7. On Creek I use the MP5 cause most pple are snipping. I just run right up the middle (praying to God no one see’s me) and take out unsuspecting players. On Hardcore, I just use overkill, R700 and MP5.

Oh, and the COD King, since your a 10th prestige, I wouldn’t be using Martydrom. Use your experiance as a COD player to pwn noobs. Not when they pwn you, you kill them by droping a live gernade. Thats noobish. One cool kid, theres always someone better than you.

I’ve seen a lot of snipers using the Barrett who definitely know what they’re doing. It’s the best weapon in the game for killing other snipers at range, because they can’t hide from it- with stopping power and deep impact, there is no such thing as “cover” from a 50 cal =]. It’s the best semi-auto sniper rifle in normal matches- in HC the m21 is better because of its ridiculously low recoil, although the barrett still wins at going through walls. How many shots off a Skorpion without stopping power through a wall at range? The barrett can still one-shot it

Seriously,you just need to get use to it,I rape everybody at such ranges with bullet of two they mostly think i am cheating and it has perfect “up” recoil,so it does not bounces a lot.

Scorpion is similar thing,but less powerful ad it recoils totally horizontally,you must use suppressor because of the muzzle flash or you cant hit an shit!
But power is not issue because I play only hardcore.

yeah i have had the game for a day now, as soon as i unlocked the scorpion it was the only weapon i used, then i got the red dot and used it too, now im on to the scorpion with the silencer and regardless of match type it is great, definitely the best weapon i reckon
mind you if i knew the damage stats i probably would have thought twice about it
anyways i have made countless kills over huge range (like full map/as far as i can see)
the spray pattern is so close that headshots are easy
low mag sucks though, i have run right out of ammo plenty of times

As found by field tests and scrutiny of the numbers in the program files, the AK74u is superior to the MP5 when using the iron sights. However when using the red dot sight or the silencer, the MP5 boasts superior hip fire, although at the cost of worse recoil. Yes, the AK74u has much more manageable recoil compared to the MP5 , the numbers show it. Therefore:

For the more run-and-gun classes, the AK74u with no attachments is superior to the MP5.

For the more stealthy players, the MP5 with the silencer exhibits greater hip fire accuracy, however the AK74u displays more controllable recoil.

In summary, the AK74u is superior to the MP5 in almost every way. Tests involving the effective sighted accuracy of the weapons when equipped with the red dot sight were not done, under the finding that red dot sights should NOT be used on SMG’s because its almost contrary to its purpose and the understanding that the MP5 w/RDS < AK74u(no attachments) due to facts previously stated.

Any claims otherwise are purely psychological in origin, and anyone who says, “the MP5 has less manageable recoil than the AK74u” has not efficiently tested their hypothesis. Also, to clear up any misunderstandings, the silencer does NOT decrease recoil, it only reduces muzzle flash, creating the illusion of less recoil to the untrained eye.

The effectiveness of the 40-20 damage class weapons(MP5 and AK74u) have NOT been compared to the other weapons such as the Skorpion or the FN P90, however general consensus states they are, on the whole, superior.

Any thoughts regarding this subject?

the Ak-74u is by far the best smg when it has no attachement. The recoil is low and the hip fire is beast. While the mp5 is the best with the silencer attached.

scorpion works best in hc you can bring down moving targets miles away, i used to use it, its manly a camping gun and i have now moved on to the p90 which owns for none campers:P

I just tested the Skorpion on shipment, The Skorpion DOES have a recoil, Though not big. I figure after testing the Mp5 vs. Skorpion I found shooting the Mp5 in short bursts is actually more accurate than blasting away with the Skorpion.

I am a strong player in Hardcore Search and Destroy, I usually stick to using my G3 but every so often I tend to rush using an AK-74u. I am debating whether or not to use the Mp5 over the Ak-74u. I usually silence ALL of my guns no matter the game-type. So this being a key factor would a silenced Mp5 be better than a silenced Ak-74u? Note, I am very good at hip firing.

I’m playing with the scorpio in normal matches and I still gave a good K/D .My advice is not to put any attachment even the red dot sight , it increaces the recoil (I have tested that and it’s true and I know it’s difficult to aim trough the scorpio’s iron sight) In my apinion the scorpio is better that the mp5 because the mp5 may has better damge at mid range but it has bigger recoil ,but speed is essential and there is a big posibility to die while shoot at hip. I have put bomb squad ,slight hand and marty perks in the spec ops class .It’s a very good combination but you may change the sleight hand perk with stopping power .It still is a good combination for a close fight and going into campers nests

Mp5 is one of the best guns in the entire game. Outstanding power great accuracy and decentt rang.
P90 is another great gun because of the great accuracy and fire rate it brings.
Uzi is close to the P90 but since it shoots so fast you have to reload a lot and the UZI has a slow reload spped.
Ak74 has great power but is to inaccurate.
Skorpion haha can be good in search,cage match or anygame you dont have to kill many people because its runs out of rounds to fast and takes time to reload.
(I have all guns golden but MP5 is my most coomon gun used)

Uzi all the way dude. Burst it and the ammo and recoil problems go away, and add on an ACOG to beef up the range. Along with Blue tiger skin, you have the stupidest looking, most effective subby. The perks you want with this combo of gun/attachment are steady aim for when the fights to close for the ACOG, bandoiler to keep it firing, and stopping power to help drop them quicker.

The AK74 has more recoil, but it’s madness to say circular recoil is easier to deal with. I find mid ranges much, much easier to handle at full auto with the AK than the MP5, however, the MP5 does have less total recoil, so it’s easier to get long ranges or headshots with burst firing- fire it like it was a pistol and there’s virtually no recoil.

Even thought the P90 sprint increase is a “bug” it makes sense cause the grip and weight of that weapon make it so easy to run with. Special thanks to the Lithuanian army for letting me play with their toys.

My good smg would be the Scorpion with the scilencer! The only problem is that it has les bullets and long reload time. So I play on Hardcore Teamdeath Match, my first perk is Bomb Squad, my seconed Slight of Hand, and third is Deep Impact!

Everything I can agree with but the Skorpion.

I almost only use the skorpion for longe range….with a silencer. It’s so accurate that all your bullets will land on target even if there are only 20. idk wat to say but at least try the skorpion out before giving it up.

You guys are all wrong. The forum may be correct statistically, but personally playing, the AK-74u is the easiest and most lethal SMG to use. It has a large enough clip to miss a few shots and still end up with a kill. The iron sights are the best out of all SMG’s, and the recoil is less that that of the MP-5. It’s hip is just the size of an enemy’s torso and is great when using an overkill class with the M40A3 w/ ACOG scope. Just by experience, this is the best SMG I’ve come across.

dude the uzi is just the best! thats why they put it as a golden gun! just think about it: ak47- best ar uzi- best smg m60- best lmg m1014- best shotty dragonuv- well, this one isnt really the best but its fairly good. and anyways a lot of people consider the p90 n00by (which it is) and the mp5 has a horrible recoil. the ak74 is ok but its hard to shoot it from the hip cuz of its accuracy. the scorpion CAN NOT be a sniper and it just looks retarded. the uzi looks the coolest, has a very good power and accuracy, and when fired in bursts it basically has no recoil, and finally the uzi just straight up gets the job done.

I have to disagree, over playing the game a lot I do believe that the P90 is the best with the MP5 and AK47u in a close second (depending on preference for power or reduced recoil). The only way which the P90 suffers is in stopping power, it has a tighter hip fire spray than most smgs, a huge clip, and a high rate of fire. It can be a great sighted weapon if you fire in 3-4 round bursts or a buzzsaw if matched with double tap and steady aim. The one thing very few of you seem to take into account is your preference in iron sights, this is very important if you intend to use your smg with a silencer. In this way the only guns I dislike in the smg category are the Mini Uzi and MP5, since in a video game a peep sight serves no purpose in aligning a sight properly (your avatar does it perfectly every time) it simply blocks part of your peripheral vision while sighted with either of these guns. When it comes it the ‘best’ smg though, it all comes down to personal preference. These are the reasons I prefer the P90 and enjoy the AK47u. However I hope that in Modern Warfare 2 the Kriss Super V will provide us with some positive differences (probably my favorite smg in real life). This is my over-analyzed view and I hope you all didn’t fall asleep during my thread.

well at the end of the day modern warare 2 is out in just a few months and i can guarenty the weopon statistics are going to be completely redefined. Aswell as taking in to acount the ultimate smg that i can also guarenty will be in it the Kriss super V that was mentioned. It puts all smg’s to shame with its wopping .45 caliber and deadly accuracy.
its basicly a Arnie’s Minigun meets Calahan’s revover. Dont even get me started on the cheytac or 416. I recomend you all watching future weopons to give you a idea to what to expect in MW2.

Well, i got nearly 200 kills with a MP5 in a 10 minute match…
All i used was:

Primary Weapon: MP5
Attachments: Red Dot Sight
Secondary Weapon: USP .45
Attachments: None
Special Grenade: Smoke Grenade
Perk 1: Bandolier
Perk 2: Stopping Power
Perk 3: Steady Aim

I Pretty much say MP5 is the best, although the P90 is very close to it.

I play hardcore although have many friends who play core. Mp5 + red dot, second perk (overkill, stopping power, jugg) on hardcore is probably the best smg with overkill taking into account the bullet damage and stuff. Although I strongly recommend mp5 with overkill m16 on hardcore. ]

p90 is terrible on core, mp5 outpowers it in all angles although the p90 silenced gives a small advantage of not being located on the minimap while firing although theres a chance the team mate you kill will call your position anyway. Hardcore tearms, the p90 is only good with a silcener with either overkill, stopping power, jugg although I would strongly recremend overkill m16 silenced p90 silenced. People like jugg/stopping power for rushing but I think overkill m16 is far to beneficial esspecially why your rush gets stoped and you camp and site some shots with the m16.

over all I prefer the p90 silenced for attacking and rushing (overkill m16 silcend), mp5 for defending in corners (overkill m16 red dot)

on core use mp5 3xstun and Juggernaught, don’t let anyone tell you jugg is a bad perk. They are just using that as an excuse for being shit

74u is and has been the best smg since release. It’s hilarious the amount of bads and pub heroes that say otherwise. Competitve wise the p90 was too gamebreaking and was removed. The scorpion has been broken since release, it has no range resistrictions when a silencer is added therefore you can snipe with it as bullets are doing maximum damage.
Which leaves the 74u, mp5 and uzi. Uzi just can’t compete damage wise especially with it’s low clip size, wall banging, prefiring etc. and your forced to reload. mp5 is fairly decent but doesn’t have the power of the 74u.
But yeah, clearly 99% of the community is wrong and Mr rank 55×10 commander general with his p90 with acog double tap claymores and martydom is correct.

mp5 and p90 are the best. good choices. as you said the skorpian is good for hardcore and i play hardcore headqaurters a decent amount , that is what i manly use a a smg in hardcore headqaurters. i also play core alot to though on regular team deathmatch and the two best smgs for that is like he said the mp5 and the p90. well that is in my opinion , you can have your own

The weapons in the game may have strengths and weaknesses, but it’s not the tools but the hands that use them. I love the game too guys but is it really necessary to act like immature brats comparing dick size? No one cares if you are the best player online – in fact that suggests that you have no life – and no one cares if you disagree or agree with the reviews, add something useful and then people will care.

Alright, you guys have the stats right but you have 1 major thing wrong. You don’t care about iron sights!!!! the mp5 is a good gun but its ironsights suck at close range, because it blocks a lot of your view. The ak-74 has good sights, but too much recoil to use the sights at a longer range. The mini uzi has good sights, the skorpion has so-so sights, and the p-90 has awesome sights. Even though the p-90 has a smaller range than the popular mp5, it’s recoil doesn’t take much effect, making it good at long ranges.

You can’t really judge the smgs though. it is all person opinion. A lot use mp5, a lot use p-90, some use ak-74, some use mini uzi, and a few use the skorpion. Cod4 doesn’t have a few super powered guns, like codwaw. It is all opinion, based on your strengths and weaknesses. My weakness is close range, so I use the p-90, because that excels at close range, which my talents give it long range, accuracy, etc.

By the way, don’t stick with just subs, try lmgs, or assault rifles and find more talent in one of those classes.

The scorpian is my favourite due to it being the most underated.

Acog on an smg is just stupid, i just moan when i see a P90 on the floor, pick it up and some noob as put an acog on it, you can see the bad accuracy when you fire at a wall. If you want an acog use an assault riffle, the m4 is the best acog imo.

Next lots of people say the ak47u is the best gun because loadsa good players use it. Loads of good players use it because its not as good as the others and they like to challange themselves, but i find it slightly weaker than the mp5. I also think the AK47 is better than the ak47u in most situations.

Personally I generally use the p90 for large clip size, amazing sights, its not my favourite SMG and it may be “noobish” but its in the game to be used and for maps like shipment, you need a sub machine gun that works, as there is a fine line between getting a chopper and dominating, or letting the oponent get a chopper and being dominated. P90 also doesnt need steady aim, so extreame conditioning can be used. I do use last stand sometimes, but it just helps get that 3rd/5th/7th kill which helps your team out.

I silance all my smgs, because I dont “run and gun” with them, I “flank” with them. Big difference one is noobish and reckless, flanking is safer, more annoying, easier to reload, more chance of getting a chopper, not considered noobish and therefore more effective. For flanking you obviously dont want to be spotted, thus silance it.

So yea dont slag off the scorpian, as it may be low on stats, but its better than you think, try it out. Dont post your K/D ratio, cus you could just be making it up and no one cares. Dont agoc a smg, use what smg suits you best, for me i like the light sprayable p90 for its abitlity to use extreame conditioning, large clip for flanking sprays, and works well with a silancer.

That’s not the way to go really. The Ak-74u has very little recoil, and it resets allmost identically back, and has a lot of penetration. Its no wonder that it is the most used sub on promod; because it is the best.

Well I think the MP5 is the best SMG (not to offend all you other guys), but it depends on what kind of SMG user you are. If you like lots of ammo then choose the P90, if you like more damage choose AK-74u, if you like something like a p90 and AK-74u go with mini-uzi, if you like damage and low recoil choose the scorpion and if you like accuracy and average recoil choose MP5. So you see that it mostly all depends on what your good with. As for perks i know 2 good ones for SMG. Pray and Spray: Bandolier, Stopping power and Steady aim. HIdden: Bandolier, Uav Jammer and Dead Silence or Extreme Conditioning (I would choose Dead Silence, because most players play with there sound on so they can hear you. Thank you for listening.

Seriously wrong data on Skorpion here. It’s range at which it does 50 is 250, which is the length of a shipping container. Quite a bit longer than knife range. Also, with double tap and at close range it will kill someone in ONE NINTH OF A SECOND. Mathematically speaking, with stopping power it has a DPS of 968, the highest in the game barring semiautos fired faster than a human can click. So everyone with P90s and AK74s can fuck themselves because I’ll kill them in 1/9 of a second. A silencer however is useless as that reduces range to knife range. Even better, you can snipe with the ironsights!
